Lets talk GEC!

Joe This might come close, pretty sure there was a Spear version. I've been annoyed that I didn't choose the Red version and been looking for one to trade for ages.

Thanks, Will

Good looking knife. I like my #15 Farm Boy, but a single blade like that would be nice.

Talking of Congress, I'll take up the refrain of let's hope they re-issue the 13 frame as a general run, either as a Jack or a single-spring Congress, jigged bone and some adventurous shield. Certain it would go down well and they have all the parts ready.

Single-spring congress: I'll take one!

Here's an odd discovery. I've been enamored with the 77's lately and managed to add some Medium Barlows both single and two blade, and a new Northfield two blade. In comparison, the Medium Barlow two blade is considerably thicker than the regular 77 two blade. In fact, the regular 77 two blade is not much thicker than the single blade Medium Barlow. Much of the added thickness is in the steel liners where the regular 77 has brass liners.
A couple comparison pics.

awesome, love a heftier single blade. i suppose thats why im in such a barlow kick.

Hmm.... Interesting observation Bob. I would've thought that steel, being stiffer, would be at least as thin as the brass frame model. Must have something to do with production.

Speaking of production, I got a call from Chris at GEC this morning letting me know there will be a short run of 19 (I think) 772215's in "Oily Creek" bone. Apparently not jigged or smooth, but more like the Frontier Bone texture. Should be very pretty and unusual. :) They will ship to select dealers today.

That's exactly what I was thinking Barry. I mentioned the same thing to a fellow member earlier today.
I like the sounds of the Oily Creek Bone.

Two blades in the same size package as a single. sign me up!
It's a win-win Mike.

I noticed that also. Surprised me.

Not that I have anywhere near as much contact with GEC as you, but are you sure it isn't just "Oil Creek Bone"? There is, after all, a creek in Titusville called Oil Creek. Historic, with pretty good fishing.

I have noticed the same thing with the 15s also. A 2 blade TC vs a beer scout or the Washington jack compared to the 77 barlow.

I guess they just use thicker liners for all steel knives.

And that's the surprising part. You would think that steel liners being stronger than brass, they could make them thinner.
I'm not complaining either. I like them both, but the regular 77 two blade ina very thin package is a big plus in my opinion. :D:cool::thumbup:

also, and I don't know why, but the walk 'n talk of the regular Tidioutte Yankees feel better to me. Seems like it would be the same if the blades and springs are made the same, but the Tidioutte clip Yankee I have is about the best I have ever felt...

That's what I was just scratching my chin over Bob, when I saw your post. ...and yes, two blades in a slim set-up, very nice.

I wish GEC would use some of the unique handle covers they have had in the past. Seems like they are just rotating the main blade style on their routine patterns and focused on SFO's. Where's the buffalo horn, rams horn, red stag...

Well said:thumbup:

Where's the Primitive Bone, Horsecut, Brimstone, Hemlock, Frontier Bone et al. of yore??

I asked and you're correct

That's what I'm talkin' about! You can only get excited about red saw cut, stag, and smooth ivory so many times before you look at your stash of knives and yearn for something new.

Feels like they think rotating the main blade style is something new...
