Lets talk GEC!

I do honestly think that the 85 pattern could very well represent the next 15 or 77. I was not even part of the traditional knife world when 85s were being produced, but, lo and behold, I managed to get as many as I could after the fact. I think this pattern, especially with some new wood and bone options (especially dyed camel) would be pretty big. One blade, two blade, spear and clip, with pens and coping? WOW. How about some 85s with natural canvas micarta?
Tons of possibilities. Many dollars disappearing. . .
Thanks,
Brian

Your dream is coming true.

Finally a run of 85s! I'm sure there will be regular production as well... Can't wait to get my hands on these. Gonna be a long wait until February!

I talked with someone at GEC over the summer and they said they might have a run of Tidioute 85s in 2016 but that they were not planning on a run of Northfields. The SFO looks like it comes completely loaded with a matchstriker pull and dimpled bolsters. I'm in!

I'm really excited about these 85's, I always felt the ez open was kind of pointless on a sheepfoot, but it looks better on a 85 fat spear

Aesthetically, I love the 85s. I would love to have one, but I haven't found the main spear, with that much belly, to be as useful for my needs as a drop point, clip, or sheepsfoot. They truly are beautiful knives. I look forward to seeing the pics as these roll out. Knives like this make me want to start collecting again. :D

Anyone have any ides what the scandi ground will look like? Having a hard time picturing this.

I messaged Mike earlier but haven't gotten a response just yet. I imagine they'll be the same blade stock (hopefully) and look like a northwoods without that seconday bevel, making it a better performer.

I'm unsure if a scandi grind is really needed on a slipjoint.. but it's certainly intriguing to imagine. At that blade thickness..would it really matter? Northwoods are made of a thicker blade stock I believe so the binding is more apparent.

I've been dreaming for a natural canvas 85 EO , hope the shield is different than the cloud used last time. Fluer-did-lis would be nice but I'd prefer none .

What would be a really cool knife is if GEC made some stag/bone #71's under the Northfield line.

I've always wondered why they never did that. Just having full stag handle would be cool, unless there is a durability issue. A smaller version would be cool too

Same here, which is why (for now) I just reserved one with the regular flat grind.
Same here. My first 85 I picked up on the exchange just showed up today too. Now I'm even more excited for these. Kind of figured they might be coming soon after seeing a few on the exchange lately.

Hoping they do a harness Jack too. For me this is the one GEC where I just don't worry about money and buy a couple.

Let us know if you hear back.

I'm a big fan of a scandi grind on my camping/hiking fixed blades. That said I just can't picture it on a #85 pattern knife.

That said I like the sounds of one in jigged antique yellow bone or maybe blood wood.

I went for antique yellow jigged. Really hoping the micarta ends up on a harness Jack. That seems like the ultimate 85 user. That or just blow my mind with a full length wharnie secondary blade.

Having had my old 2011 #73 Pattern with cocobolo covers since it was new, I never really scratched the itch further (closest I got was a select few SAK's).

I had always enjoyed the classic looks, easy sharpening 1095, thin geometry and overall cutting ability but found other folders for pocket-time and EDC applications.

Well maybe I am getting old, or maybe my tastes are getting refined but over the last few weeks I have found myself more and more drawn to the traditional beauty of GEC's. This has culminated in the purchasing of several as follows;

#73 Trapper - Liner Lock - OD Green Linen Micarta
#83 Little Lockback - OD Linen Micarta - Clip Point
#83 Little Lockback - OD Linen Micarta - Drop Point
#99 Wall Street - Ebony - Spearpoint

[Oh, and a Northwoods Michigan Jack with Orange Camel Bone covers - I know it's not officially a GEC but it is made by them ;)]

I get to them when I return Stateside on 12/09! I guess you could say that I have been bitten...

Cheers all!

Ben

Wow, that's quite the haul to return to. I love the wall street pattern. Surprised it wasn't more popular
