Lets talk GEC!

I'd like a two blade Boys Knife, Radio configuration in D2. I'd like any GEC Jack Knife in D2. But I don't think it will ever happen. I, personally, consider D2 the perfect blade steel, FOR ME. Carbon Steel but highly stain resistant. It's a little more difficult to sharpen than 1095, but will take a wicked edge. Others may prefer what they will, but for me D2 is it.

with 12% Chromium, D2 is pretty far from being carbon steel. But, I agree that it makes a great blade steel. I have a number of traditional blades in D2 and very much like it.

I am far from a Steel expert. I did hear somewhere that less than 20% Chromium was considered "Carbon Steel" and steel with more than 20% Chromium was considered "Stainless" steel. This is apparently an incorrect statement, but in my ignorance, this is what I based my assumption on. Always willing to learn.

It has always been my understanding that D2, while having a higher chromium content than most other carbon steels, is still classified as a carbon tool steel, not a stainless.

Sarah, just like this one, only in 440C.

I always thought of it as a "tool steel," but regardless of its classification, it is also MY favorite blade steel! :D

From Wikipedia:
"In metallurgy, stainless steel, also known as inox steel or inox from French "inoxydable", is a steel alloy with a minimum of 10.5%[1] chromium content by mass."

From AG Russell's Steel Guide:
D2 has chromium from 11-13%

I would call D2 a stainless tool steel.

The handle materials for the #15 Boys Knives are Ebony Wood, Rust Red Jigged Bone, Antique Yellow Jigged Bone and NifeBrite Acrylic. This run will be Gabon Ebony. The Farm Boy and the Radio Knife included. Any other handle materials will either be an SFO, or a Factory Short Run, I think.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize GEC uses different species of ebony

Wow. I think the Radio Knife will have to be my first #15 "Boy's Knife" without a doubt.

~ P., if the tip closes past the spine of the coping blade it will be good enough! ;)

But you are right . . . my cut and paste sizing is a little off! :o

3 5/8" equal end, single spring, with clip blade and sheepsfoot, please. in stainless.

Sounds like what I have been wanting, but maybe 3" (so the blade is 2.5"). Maybe in that awesome yellow bone the new barlows have.

You could make it happen as an SFO Bob. If you do, I'll take one.

I don't see much information other than a few pictures on the website. Does anyone have any additional information on what to expect?

Another run of the same knife. Same knife, same blade, same handle materials.

As Bob said, they should be pretty much the same as the previously available #71 Bullnose knives such as this one and again, as Bob said, they will be available with various cover color options.

A 71 bullnose with a lock back would be a complete winner for me. Dare to say it would chase all other knives out of my pocket for good. That and a bit of a harder rc on the o1.......but now I'm just getting picky.;)
