Lets talk GEC!

Just per-ordered the two bullnoses from Mike's site:thumbup: I'm stoked about these, I was just thinking how I was bummed they were just doing a run of the three handle materials they've already done and BOOM! My prayers answered! I think these will be very well received and I hope this opens the door to more handle choices on this pattern. Thanks Mike!

Want.

I'm going to merge this with the Let's Talk GEC thread. There are already a few posts about this knife.

Looks like it is green linen micarta and green paper micarta that is being produced. Definitely going to pick one of these up.

I'm not really familiar with micarta. Can anyone tell me what the main differences between linen and paper micarta besides aesthetics if there are any?

Judging from this photo, it looks as though the main pivot on these 71s is not as flush in the center as the last few runs. It looks as though it is a little bit raised like the #15 Electrician's knife. Maybe it is a stronger pivot as well? It could just be an illusion.

I would love to see GEC do a 71 Bullnose with wooden covers!

It will be linen and canvas; with the main difference being more texture and contrast of the canvas. Also, the canvas will not be buffed to a shine to lend more of a grippy feel. There will be approximately 100 linen and 50 canvas produced.

I have no idea how these production runs work. I think I would like one of these though. Could someone pm me how one goes about getting one of those 150 made?

Woah lots of great GECs cmoning out. I had a orange bullnose that I sold, so I`m definately gonna try and get one of those Micarta.

That would be a nice surprise. Maybe a blackwood?

So.... yea. I might have placed a pre-order for another Bullnose earlier today. I've been dreaming up a canvas micarta Bullnose since I got my grubby mitts on my Redneck Bullnose. I guess I get to find out before too long. :D

I just got my new 71 Bull Nose knives. The Pivot Pins are flush. A Steel Pivot Pin is going to be a stronger pivot than Nickel Silver anyhow.

Oh, so you have the OD Green Micarta in stock too? That's what burnside was addressing - the green micarta bull nose. It does look as if the pivot pin is proud on the knife in the picture. But if you have them in stock and the pins are flush on all of them then maybe the one pictured was a "hurry up and get it on the cover" picture. Personally, I like the looks of a raised pin like that on the Electrician. Sorta gives a unique look.

I expect he was referring to a delrin model; but you would think all would be the same.

Maybe you're right Mike. Are any of the OD Green Linen Micarta or OD Green Canvas micarta covered #71s in dealers hands as of today? You said earlier that the canvas version was a SFO for you. Is the linen version a SFO for you too?

Some dealers are much closer to PA than I am; thus it is not beyond reason. But they shipped mine on Friday.
The linen will be availabe thru all interested dealers.

I got the feeling it may be some time before they ran any Bullnose again; so I figured I better load up.

I'm considering a purchase of the green canvas #71. Those of you who have both an O1 bullnose and a GEC with their 1095—
• how do the two steels compare for edge holding and sharpening feel and ease?
• does one patina more or less easily than the other?

Thanks!
