Lets talk GEC!

O1 holds an edge longer for me and takes a little longer to bring out a hair popping edge. I can get my edge set on the 55 in about 5 minutes maybe, around 8~10 for the hayn helper(just sharpened them all up today actually). 1095 patinas much easier in my experience Jeff.

So which one do you guys prefer, the OD Green Linen Micarta or the OD Green Canvas Micarta Bullnose? I have both on order, but I'm thinking of picking up another one in canvas micarta if there were only 50 of those made.

Ok - Thanks for the picture, Burnside. I preordered a canvas #71, but I haven't been able to find a picture yet. Everything I found only showed the Linen.

It looks as good as I expected. :D My (obvious) vote is canvas.

I've got the canvas version on order from Collector Knives too. Ya know, the pivot pins on those knives do look a little proud, which is just fine by me, as it'll give them an extra touch of character. You're right "burnside", there are only 50 of the canvas versions being made. They are a SFO for Mike.

How thick are these new micarta handles? Are they thick like the delrin models, or are they thinner, like the NifeBrite?

I pre-ordered two of each knife, I figured I'll have a user of both handle choices and the other two will sit as backups. I think both look great but the canvas micarta looks fantastic! I love the texture on those scales, can't wait for them to land.

I just pre-ordered a canvas micarta from Mike. I've never had a knife with any type micarta covers, nor have I tried GEC's O1 steel - seemed like a good way to try 'em both. ;)

Since no one has one of them in hand, that question is probably better directed to GEC. However, they do look to be about the same as the delrin #71s.

Wow, I had one in linen pre-ordered, but after seeing the canvas, had to order one of those as well. My Dad will probably wind up with one of the two, but I don't know that I'll give him first choice.

Boy, both look very nice, I'd lean toward the Canvas if I were gonna pick one up---very nice covers on both.

I like the linen version better personally. But they both look great. Really I'd be happy with either and I will probably buy one eventually.

Chances are you will end up getting the linen eventually (seeing as there were 100 made of the linen micarta and only 50 of the Canvas). I'd jump on a Canvas one now if you think you might want one of those, but since you prefer the linen, you should be good for a little while longer. Just keep in mind that these are limited.

I just ordered one of the canvas. If my order went through, that does mean I will definitely get one (not just "on the list") right? This is my first time doing an sfo preorder.

I have been really wanting and looking at all kinds of sodbuster style knives for a while. I held a case full size for the first time today and I feel like (although the extra blade length is nice) it might be a bit big to carry. I also didn't really want to go with the tru sharp. I have never had o1, it will generally both hold an edge longer and be more strain resistant than cv or 1095, correct? I'm really excited to try it, and I love canvas Micarta. Woo hoo! Now the wait.

Edit: I see rockgolfer confirms my assumptions about o1

Yes. I got 50 so they would last for months; turns out that might have been a little pessimistic...
