Lets talk GEC!

I wonder if iron wood is more prone to splitting.

I've worked with ironwood a bit. Milled some of it thinner than a standard traditional handle and it was stable. Snakewood on the other hand is known for being difficult to work with. It splinters and splits very easily. In fact, they had that problem last year on some of the 47's. Who knows why they don't use it? I had forgotten about Palo Santo. I guess it's not because of its hardness.

Oak Leaf Shield is nice.
I'm waiting on the Snakewood to be in next week to order, so they ship together.

Hey Y'all, whos got some GEC seconds, I just got a 14 TC barlow from a sale on Gunstockbarry's site and I cant seem to find a problem with it. cosmetics? its fit and finish is pretty good, and I cant seem to see any issues. How does GEC categorize their seconds? Much Obliged!

I'd still like to see a 440C #48 Jack. I'll even take a #15, #85, #77, or #92 in 440C. Still waiting for stainless 2 blade jack from GEC...

Here's one of those #73s in Desert Ironwood from '07. Thanks again Mike!!!

All of my seconds seem to be such because of cosmetic reasons.

Love the ironwood, Trand. Here is a 440C in American walnut from 2012, followed by a Tidioute from 2007 in box elder burl, 1 of 5 only.

What has been done, can be done!

Haha trand long time no see pal and that fabled blue cloth! 48s, 15s 77s

That goes for you too, Jeff!
I love the standard woods(ebony, cocobolo, etc), but it is always nice to see something unusual.

Trand and Jeff, those 73s are awesome. Holy smokes, thanks for posting the pictures. GEC did run some 440C 48s in 2012. I recently picked one up in cherry wood, don't have a photo handy.

They also did a very few 79s in some different maples. The center knife below is brown curly maple.

John, I believe Trand was referring to the #48 jack, with clip and pen blades, to be available in 440C. The previous stainless 48s were all trapper blade combos, with clip and long spey. I would amend Trand's request to have the muskrat clip with a sheepfoot secondary, behind the clip with mark side nail nick.

Thanks for correcting me, Jeff. My mistake. I got all excited and posted without reading Trand's post carefully.

The clip/sheepfoot combo that you mentioned would be really cool. They haven't run that before, have they? They did the improved trappers with the wharnie secondary a few years ago...
