Lets talk GEC!

No, never with just the sheepfoot secondary. I prefer the sheepfoot to the long Wharncliffe.

That 48 looks nice. I have an earlier 48 Northfield in cocobolo with the narrow clip in front. I've been tempted many times to convert the spay on that one to a lambsfoot but talk myself out of it.
Take care,
Rick

Trand, your collection never ceases to amaze!
Thank you Erik :)

Love the ironwood, Trand. Here is a 440C in American walnut from 2012, followed by a Tidioute from 2007 in box elder burl, 1 of 5 only.
Very nice Jeff!! I made sure to snag a couple of the American Walnuts myself :)

Haha trand long time no see pal and that fabled blue cloth! 48s, 15s 77s
Hey Jack :)

Trand and Jeff, those 73s are awesome. Holy smokes, thanks for posting the pictures. GEC did run some 440C 48s in 2012. I recently picked one up in cherry wood, don't have a photo handy.

They also did a very few 79s in some different maples. The center knife below is brown curly maple.
Very nice knives John!! Yep, I have a few of those #48s. The 3rd from the right is also Dark Brown Curly Maple (1 of 2). As Jeff said, those were all either full blade trappers or single bladed knives. For some reason, GEC will make single blade knives, 2 full blade knives, or equal ended/pen/half congress style knives in 440C but have yet to make a jack (except a 420HC #73J for Cripple Creek). I believe the #53 Cuban Stockman is also their only stock/cattle style knife in 440C.

I made my own #48 clip/sheepsfoot combo. I converted the spey into the sheepsfoot.
Very nice mod Bob!!

Very nice mod Bob!!

Love that collections... typically not a fan but those pics are changing my mind. wow...

Bob, I made a #48 jack myself, but modified both blades, making the long spey into a drop point main, and the regular clip into a big sheepfoot. Here is the "before and after" pic, followed by the "way after" pic. :D

Trand - I don't think there's a smiley for jaw drop, but if there were I'd insert it here. What an amazing bunch of 48s. Thanks for sharing them.

Jeff - That is a really cool modification as well. There's something really graceful about the drop point. Great patina. I kind of did a double take - it almost looks like damascus.

Thanks for the compliments fellas.
Jeff, I like your variation as well. It was actually yours that inspired me to mod my 48.

I see the new production schedule is up on the GEC site. More 74s with muskrat clip blades coming. Stallions rather than Mustangs.

The clip blade on Rob's Heartland clip 74 SFO looks the same as the one being used on the 74 Stallions. Weren't they supposed to be slightly different?

I'm just guessing here but probably the Tidioute will have a drawn swedge, as is usually the case. I too thought I understood only the sfo would have cut swedges.
Take care,
Rick

Quick question for all you GEC folks. What is the smallest sized pattern they have produced? Came up on a FB slip joint group I belong to; the #22 was posited, but I thought perhaps the #9. Anyone know off the top of their head?
Thanks, Neal
