Lets talk GEC!

Can someone explain what frontier bone is? Are the bone slabs flat and equal on each side?

I have seen a list explaining the numbers GEC stamp on their blades, but I can't remember where. Can you help?

Frontier bone processing is proprietary. As to whether it is flat on each end (I assume you mean "end" instead of "side"), some runs will come fairly uniform and then there will be some that are up/down. But I may not be understanding the question. They have a "pioneer" bone that is a little more rugged looking, but seems close to the frontier in most cases.

On the blade stampings, here is a long answer, and here is a short answer.

Single blade, as they are listed as 922114 / 920114 patterns. They didn't list "EC" but I can get some clarification tomorrow.

They are leaning towards doing the single blade run as they did the jacks (bare end Tidioute, end capped Northfield); what are your thoughts on that?

Can any of you GEC insiders/distributors/dealers speak to the plans for the 53 flat bolsters as shown in one of their "what's happening" photos? Club knife maybe?

Northwoods..

The 92 is a big favourite of mine, got the Ivory Bone and Green Bone Tidioutes, really well made. I'm a bit confused by this re-run, are they 2 blade Jacks or single blade? Barehead? Any ideas? If they are Jacks, I'm surprised they didn't offer Clip this time round instead of Spear again, the Wharncliffe will be on my want list for sure.

What's the feeling about the forthcoming tadpole sized Magnum 22? At a shade over 2.5" closed it's just unfeasible to my mind but I suppose a lot of people could go for it, thoughts?

I'm a big fan of the Pemberton which while a 1/4" longer is still small by most standards. I'll be checking out the 22 Magnum when it comes out.

I would prefer the #92's all be bareheads, not a fan of end caps on this pattern. These sound really nice.

My thoughts exactly. This is particularly the case with single-blades too, slimmer less bulk. Any shields or brass liners pins info?

Most interested in this release! A quality acrylic could be something special, new type of jigged bone or the stuff seen on recent Boy's knives would be welcome.

When I say side I'm talking about the the place where shields and pins are visible. Don't know if it's correct.

I'd really like a barehead Jack in some autumn jigged bone..... I think I like these in Jack configurations better....

Agreed! They did spear jacks the first time through with the #92, would love to see their version of a clip this time, with the coping of course!

So, I think the question is "are the slab surfaces generally flat". If so, then yes. They radius like most other slabs but generally they are a smooth bone with consistent grade.

Thank you for helping me clarify that. I'm still learning the terminology of traditional knives.

two blade, super thin. other than that, we'll just have to wait for pictures. :)

Excellent. Wrapped in some vividly colored camel bone could be super nice. The bolster detail is neat & to my knowledge is completly new for the 53/54 pattern.

Can anyone post a photo of a #33 and an #09 side-by-side (or in the same shot), please? Thanks in advance.
