Lets talk GEC!

That was not an issue. And we would appreciate if you would keep such suppositions off the boards. It does nothing but raise problems.

2013 was last year. We are now working on the 2014 knife and we will focus on that.

OK. Sorry, Frank.:foot:

Blackwood sounds good. Personally, I like the idea of some rotten banana bone or that lovely tortoise shell acrylic.

I shouldn't think that a small handful of people moaning would put them off. It's great pattern that is seldom seen, and I'm sure it would be profitable for them. :)

Couldn't have said it better! But then again I think every pattern would look good with a rotten banana option. At the knife show earlier this month I made sure to mention a few times how much I love the rotten banana bone. :) She said she really liked that one too.

I got to hold the 2013 forum knife at the same show & I was very surprised at how much I liked it. That super long sheepsfoot is just cool.

How long has it been since GEC issues knives with Rotten Banana or Tortoise Acrylic? Does anyone have any insight how GEC chooses scale materials (seems like they have an unlimited selection of Acrylics coming in).

And GEC did a fantastic job with the ivory micarta on the 2013 forum knife. I was pleasantly surprised by how much it looks and feels like elephant ivory.

The last time I saw a tortoise shell acrylic release was on the conductor two blade released in 2011, but there might have been one since that I missed. I'm not sure about the rotten banana bone though.

As far as I know the actual rotten banana label was only used on the 66 Serpentine Jack in 2010. More than likely somebody will prove me wrong though. :)

Good point, there has also been green banana bone and smooth yellow banana bone. All of which were nice.

The tortoise is one of the least used handles of all. In 2011 they did runs of the #33 (26 only) the #36 (only 1) and the #61 (only 4).
I'm fortunate enough to have one of the half whittlers, and it is really one of the best GEC acrylics.

They made 49 of the rotten banana bone #66s in 2010. In the same year they also made tortoise acrylic handles for 3 of the #66 jacks, and 8 of the #89 Gamblers.

Jeff shows a fine picture of what is a fantastic acrylic. I have the Conductor in it and it's one of those (few) knives, till death us do part:thumbup:

Looking at the Tortoise Shell Half-Congress has me picturing the Congress Jack with rat-tail bolsters, long pull, in that acrylic.

So far the Tortoise shell has been used in the Tidioute line, I'd love to see it on some Northfields. The first time I saw Tortoise Shell on a pocketknife as a kid was a very fancy Boker. Ever since I've always thought of it as a fancy high end handle material.

That's a very nice whittler! The 89 is a pattern you very seldom see here on the forum (I don't have one myself, I'll have to change that) and I don't know why. I think they look fantastic!

Thanks for showing that lovely tortoise version :)

By looking at the in progress pictures of the 92s on GE's website, it looks like ebony on Tidioute and chechen rosewood on Northfields so far. I'm not sure if other varieties might possibly be available, this is just what I was able to make out from the pictures shown.
