Lets talk GEC!

Is it just me or do the pin placements on those mysterious Barlow's look different than the 78s sitting next to them? Would they not have a similar pin placement if they were on the same frame?

They definitely look like a #77. Can't tell if the bolsters are stamped or not.

I saw that too, Lostball. But if you have an example each of a regular jack and Barlow in the 77 frame, for instance, you will note the top pin being placed more rearward on the Barlow...likely due to the bolster shortening the slab somewhat. I'm thinking that pin placement might follow as well on the 78 frame, if it is indeed a 78 Barlow. Or - it's a 77 Barlow we're looking at. :p Still got me goin' though. :D

I don’t know what the Barlow’s are about, but that Northwoods comment reminded me of something. Late 2016 I emailed KSF asking about something about my order and added a question, when might we see another run of Burnsides? Well I was told they were hoping to get a Burnside run in 2017. I’m thinking that might become a 2018 reality with the 56’s..?

I believe gec has either cropped out the barlows or taken the picture down now. A run of 77 barlows would be awesome!

I seem to recall them engaging in a similar faux pas when the recent 25s were being produced. It was the first inkling folks had that a Northwoods run of 25s was in the works. The offending picture was taken down after it caused a bit of buzz...

I saved it.

If it were a 77, I'm pretty sure @knifeswapper would have put it on the early reserve a while ago. I could be wrong, but...

Smells like Northwoods to me. Mike made a comment in the last six months that left me with the impression that longer standing GEC dealers getting the short end of some stick than some of the newer ones. Maybe related. However, all I'm doing, other than noting no 77 Barlow on early reserve, is speculating.

I know they aren't in focus, but those bolsters don't look like they have a NF stamp, and I'm pretty sure that stamp happens earlier in the knife than when they're assembled.

That would be excellent if they were making a run of 77s -especially in clip points.

My awareness/affinity for GEC came about too recently to have partaken in the previous runs, but i have tracked 2 down and (like many I'm sure) this pattern is easily in my top 3. (Although the recent 78s are really growing on me)

It is the right size, weight, shape, pull, sound, etc. That makes me smile when I pick it up to carry it.

If somebody told me I could only have 1 GEC, I'd be hard pressed to decide between a 77 or a 15.

If it is a Northwoods Barlow then they might have listened to us forum members. I seem to remember some grumbling in a different thread that people would like to see some different covers on the Northwoods knives. People were tired of the same micarta and premium bone covers.

The saw cut bone will be a nice change. Who knows.....we might even get a premium wood cover option....

If this is the secret soon to be announced Northwoods model, this would have to be a #78 Barlow right as I believe CK has the rights to 77 Barlows. I though that I read somewhere that CK has the exclusive on 77 barlows and 85 Northfields (trim). I would really be excited for a 78 Barlow in a clip point, just hope my bank account recovers from the recent bountiful GEC knife releases in time.

I missed the barlows in the shot the first time I looked. After reading this thread I went back to check. Sure enough...
Also there WAS another pic that had the barlow in the background too, and I could swear I saw a single lined bolster on the same knife, but no line in the picture above??
Guess we'll all have to wait and see.
