Lets talk GEC!

Everything on GEC's site seems to be working for me. It looks like they just consolidated some of the options into grouped dropdowns.

GEC's site seems to work fine for desktop users, it's the mobile platforms that are having issues with it. Just tried it on my ipad and those top drop down menus are not working correctly on the ipad, though they work find for me on my desktop computer.

I am having the same GEC website problems many are reporting. The only link at the top of the page working for me is the production schedule.

I was also surprised the new schedule takes us through September which is roughly 5.5 months. I’m thinking the 15 run will be huge like the 78s were at the end of 2017. I’m also speculating that we may see some Northwoods on either the 15 or 44 frame which is why they are stating thru September.

I'm wondering if the schedule dates are a typo. All the knives on the schedule have in production pictures posted, or are already completed.

Oh no, I didn't mean to imply that at all!

I actually have no hardcore preference one way or another, although I suspect we will, in fact, get the fixed style bail you desire. I'm stoked to get any version of the boy's knife style, I'm just getting antsy to see what we're going to be getting, haha!

I sincerely hope that it will have a fixed bail. Since there is a version without a bail being run, using a removable bail would be quite pointless.

Now if I could just convince GEC not to make it a bare head. We all have a ton of bare head #15’s, after all of the recent Beer Scouts and cap lifters, as well as the last stainless run. It’s time for some end caps.

I like the idea of the fixed bail, but would only like end caps if they could make the bail somehow not scuff them up. This is one of my only nitpicks on the 98 camp knives, the bails kinda marked up the bolsters.

I'm curious what they'll do here. I believe the most (all?) of the #15 Boys Knives with spearpoint blades in the past have had end caps, so I would expect that these would, as well. But maybe the addition of the bail changes that. I guess we'll find out.

Just tried booking at the local Quality Inn in Titusville where I stayed last August for the GEC Rendezvous and they are all booked up. Dooh!

I liked the easy walk into town and the accommodations were good, plus breakfast. Hope I don't have to head off to Oil City or Franklin to overnight.

GEC #71 O1 mini-review time:

This knife checks quite a few firsts for me: my first knife in O1, my first #71 / F&F, and my first sodbuster pattern. It does reaffirms one thing though, my carbon steel blues (literally)....it has a nice patina now!

Initially, I was quite impressed. It sharpened up great, took a very high polish, and was hair whittling sharp. It cut through phonebook paper with nothing more than a whisp. I then thought I would try it out for Sunday kitchen duty to see how it compared to 1095. I cut up about 10 mushrooms, a couple dozen cherry tomatoes, a poblano pepper, and through a plastic bag. It would not shave hair or cut phone book paper afterwords. Honestly, 1095 does quite a bit better than that for cutting up food. I have used my GEC and Opinel carbon steel knives in the kitchen for years and they maintain a good working edge for days before a touch up is required. Moral of the story...Farm & Field (& not kitchen) is fitting and I understand why GEC discontinued O1.

However, I still like the knife and see what the hype is about for the #71 bull nose. I will keep my stainless knives for food prep though.

Same. I almost always use my phone, so I hope they fix them.

I was thinking the same. Seems to not add up. But who knows, maybe the 15s will be a continuous production type deal.

Since there are some with and some without, I'd assume they will not be fixed. But who knows.

Jeez. I wonder if that's mostly the Rendezvous, or the oil festival also? Either way, I think it's going to be even busier this year. It's grown exponentially even in the last 4 years I've been going. I'm really looking forward to this year. I'm hoping to be there at least Thursday and Friday, maybe Saturday also.

Factory edges are often crap. Two common problems are a wire edge that breaks down quickly or the very apex getting overheated during sharpening on power equipment and losing it's temper. I reprofile every knife I get to 10dps and then add a 15dps micro bevel. Then I wait until after a couple of sharpenings before I start drawing conclusions ....

I'd love to take that off your hands...

Does anyone know what the Red and Black Micarta clip point #15s that just came up on the early reservation system are? I see them on the production schedule but is it a normal run? Bareheaded? Any more info?

Was it confirmed that the spear 15s will definitely be crescent pulls? Or are some of them going to be long pulls?
