Lets talk GEC!

I just do not think I want to pay extra for something I am likely to remove anyways. A nice novelty or homage to years gone by but I do not think it is practical in todays world. I guess the pocket clip replaced the purpose but clips are not allowed in this forum.

Most pants now have the button on your fly... I'm interested in pictures of these knives with the chain used, but not looking forward to pages of crotch shots .

I passed on these because of the chain.

Ha! I don't blame you. Once in hand, I will take some pictures of the chain in place on some jeans that aren't being worn, for demonstration purposes.

Just got my red and black clip 15's...you guys are right about the action being perfect on these. Any clue why the pull is so long on this one? Seems like they accidentally used a stamp that was intended for a larger blade...perhaps a 77??

I believe it's intentional to differentiate it

Seems to me that GEC did a nice job in anticipating that many customers would like a version without the bail and chain, so they made a whole bunch without this feature.

It also boggles my mind that someone would buy a bail and chain knife, then remove it, when the knives without the bail and chain are readily available (at least for now). I am eagerly anticipating all the "chained" variants!
ETA: And all the "crotch shots" with the chain attached to the pants button!

I did order the non chain version. GEC did run a mix. I wish there had been more clip point variants rather than chain models. I wonder if the chain versions will linger on the retailer sites? Time will tell. I am happy for the folks that want one. Just not my thing.

Personally I like the bail and chain, especially the Maher & Grosh version. I’m really hoping I can land those two.

Instead of using the button loop, you could probably remove that and attach a snap hook in its place. Then you could attach it it to your belt loop or your belt via a key holder along the lines of this...

Now this looks great.

I like it, but if I pick up one of the M&G versions, it'll probably be the jigged bone.

I've found the comments on the "perfect action" of this run of #15's interesting. I've received a jigged bone and Ebony from the "standard" single-spear run so far, and both are what I would call "mushy" or "sluggish" in at least in one part of the action. My jigged bone is sluggish going from half-stop to closed, and the Ebony is the same going from half-stop to open. I'm hoping a good flush and oiling will take care of it, but it's definitely a new experience for me with GEC. Having handled maybe 80 or so GEC knives since I started buying them a few years ago, these are the first I've had where you could get the blade to stay in either of these positions.

(Sorry for the poor quality photo, just snapped one real quick to show what I'm talking about.)

Got my 15 red clip today. This knife is excellent, I really can't believe I got one. You guys are ravinous with these things. The second I purchased it snap they were sold out. Love this clip blade it is what my uncle, who bought me my first knife a kabar stockman, would call a real frog sticker.:D

btb01 btb01 based on my own observations and some comments I have seen, I think GEC may be overtightening the bolsters in an effort to reduce blade play. This slows the blade action. The recent whalers may have this issue.

I generally prefer a snappy knife to one that sticks.

Sorry Jiki, I couldn't resist! You need to put your photos on a second party hosting sight (I use imgur.com, which is free) and then copy and paste the BBCode into your post. Easy peasy!
