Lets talk GEC!

Gasp. Makes the knees in this knife knerd buckle. I would accept asterisked anecdotal totals for those. I guess 250 per for Tidioute, 200 ish for Northfield bone and wood and I think less for the stags.

Looking at the other patterns' totals, I think you're pretty close. They really stepped up production this past year!

The first thing I thought of when I saw several hundred + totals for individual covers was that it might be a rude awakening for those internet "dealers" who scooped up knives and immediately resold them for 25-40% markups. There should now be plenty to go around at the normal retail price.

Jeff, by my count, the 2017 totals and 2016 totals would be pretty close... 2017 numbers below don't include the missing 78s.

Totals include Tidioute, Northfield, Great Eastern, Farm & Field, and SFOs:

2016 - 31,418
2017 - 31,003

* old eyes calculated those totals

That's some pretty impressive work there, Al, but what I was referring to was the much larger totals per cover option. Since about 2008 GEC pretty much did 25-75 of each cover (total of serialized and unserialized) and some short runs were less than 10. Now they are making 2-300 of each cover option, and possibly more than that.

I gotcha! Yep, no doubt about it!

Does anyone know if "pepper spots" can be removed with Simichrome polish? (or Flitz which I do not currently own).

None of my knives have pepper spots, but I did use Simichrome to attempt to remove the patina from my new #44 Buffalo with pretty good results. You can still see a bit of dark discoloration (no matter how many times I polished/cleaned it).

Curious to know if trying to remove pepper spots would offer the same results?

I'm not looking to make any GEC knife look new, but just to eliminate any future discoloration and/or pitting.

Yeah flitz has worked out for me.

I've had success "dulling" a patina with Flitz, but it never removes it completely.
I actually like a nice patina, not dark black, but an even dull grey is nice looking.

Yeah, I too like patina on the blades.

The other night I was quartering a dozen key limes and apparently didn't rinse the blade properly.

The result was several nasty dark black spots and a few small red ones (rust?) all over the clip blade.

I originally planned to just remove the spots and got carried away.

I'll pick up some Flitz this weekend.

what is this ???
