Lets talk GEC!

The whole point of the "Let's talk GEC" was to talk about GEC past, present, future and not clog up the forum with a million threads. Its been going for a year.
Now there's an issue with us talking about new knives they are making....

I can understand not posting where to get the knife or how much it costs. But, not being able to talk about upcoming knives is ridiculous.

No offense intended to knarfeng, but the first line of the first post of this thread is:

"Sometimes I want to talk about a new pattern I spy on Great Eastern's site and dont feel it needs its own thread."

This might be exactly the place to discuss new GEC patterns.

Great thread, and pertinent conversation. In other forums I belong to, there are "lounge" threads where anything about a specific topic goes - in this case, GEC. The thread already feels like a GEC Lounge thread, so why not keep it all in one place? As the OP says, "Bring on your random GEC pics, trivia, questions or whatever" I'm new here, but that's my two cents for what it's worth.

That is a Camillus scout knife. Kind of like a Swiss army knife. Knife, cap lifter/screwdriver, awl. I want a GEC version of a scout pattern in the worst way.

Me too. They already have tooling from other knives for a caplifter/screwdriver and awl. If they put that on a #68 frame with bail...

Also stainless. :D

Hey, watch it. This is the traditional knife forum and just like Knarfeng said, the traditional forum IS NOT the place to discuss future traditional knives.

ahh, I see I'm about 88 pages of posts too late for anyone to know what I'm talking about. LOL. oops

I know what your saying! Those #15s have come out since I brought that up and it would be very easy to take the awl and cap lifter from them and stick em in a #68 with a spear point and bail. I would buy several!

Yes, this is the place to talk about what GEC is actually making. But that was not the comment to which I took exception:
Really,

I am on here couple times a day and did not see anything. Forest for the trees I guess.

The expectation is that you look at the GEC web site showing what is being manufactured, and you talk about them here. But, this is not supposed to be the dissemination point for information on SFO's. It is not the place to talk about who is going to be selling which SFO's.

It all goes back to "Talk about the knives.", not where they are being sold. We have selling forums for that here on BF.

what??? we certainly can talk about new or upcoming GEC knives. Others issues such as price and dealer availability...no.

Speaking of GEC; do you think they will do another run of 73s? Or, have they done all they can do with that pattern.? This question certainly still shows how green I am, but after looking at their page, they have done more than several in that pattern.

Is that your perception? From a lurker's viewpoint this forum is heavily and unnecessarily moderated. Threads discussing knives are condensed, moved, or closed, the only reasons being that the discussion was swaying towards, God forbid, buying a knife. The moderation doesn't seem consistent.

I'm super excited about this Charlow. I love soup bone, red bone, single clips, and of course charlows.

Hey man, just sent you a pm.

Can we talk about new and upcoming knives in the "Lets talk GEC!" thread. Obviously that's my perception, not yours?

This thread needs more pics & less complaining lol. ;) KBA mentioned the 73 pattern & I just happen to have taken a picture of mine today. Wish they would bring back this Gator Bone!

Jake

Very nice Jake! I don't think I have seen that one pictured much here. Thank you for showing it off.

I agree Jake and Brett. I apologize for any disturbance. Really like that Gator bone Jake:thumbup:

somber, sent you a pm but your box is full...no issues with you at all my friend:o:thumbup:

To stay on topic...I love the EO Scout and hope GEC will offer more in the future;)

Brett, they have done several runs since the originals. As it is one of their original patterns and one of their most popular, I imagine they will continue making them every few years (most recent was last year.) They will also do runs of the 72 lockback and the 72 "pony jack" (essentially the same knife as a 73 trapper) so those might come out at times.

I have noticed they've run through different styles of nail nick (crescent, matchstrike) and other variations (lanyard hole/no hole, brass/steel liners, etc.) I expect they will find some other way or varying future runs as it seems they like to change some small thing each time.

Thanks for the info good sir. I figured this was the case but thought I would still ask. Hope all are having a great weekend.
