Let's talk Northwoods

I was fortunate enough to score one in mammoth. #66

That is beautiful, uhh Twat...

I have suggested this way earlier in this thread, I think, but how would everyone feel about the giraffe/kudu/mammoth/stag being sold like the micartas and wood scales?

You wouldn't get to pick a particular color/texture etc. but it would probably be easier to get one bought. Then, you just kinda count on the luck of the draw.

Too much variation...

Just fix the cart sniping issue and they're good.

As others have mentioned...

Put it in cart and start a 5 minute timer; if the sale doesn't complete it goes back to an available status.

Oh, I totally agree!

If the cart sniping could be eliminated then there would be no need for my solution!

All those individual pics must take a boatload of time to boot.

Some would be in favor of that method, but others would whine that they got something they didn't like.... At least this present way no one can complain that they got something that they don't want....

I don't understand how their software works. The first person to put a knife in their cart should get the knife. If they haven't paid after a couple minutes, then it could go back up for sale, but it should show as sold the second it goes in a cart.

Seems like people would use multiple computers to place as many knives in a cart as possible to hold them before deciding what to purchase? I don't know. The software companies use for online purchases is outside my understanding.

Let's face it, there's going to be some complaining, haha.

But, with the method I described, at worst, you will find yourself with a knife that has pretty much doubled in value by the time it reached your door. No trouble at all in getting rid of a Northwoods you don't care for.

How in the heck did you have enough time to enter the coupon code without getting your cart robbed?

I'm typically using a desktop, not a phone, and have never missed out on the more common Northwoods offerings that I want. I steer clear of the individually numbered handle materials to avoid that next level of frustration.

Ok I was really going to try and sit this one out but I couldn’t resist that sawcut... I’m not a huge fan of red, how difficult would it be to try and dye it another color?
as long as you wanted to go darker, it wouldn't be much of a problem. You can do a search for various methods to dye bone on here.

It's not mammoth, it's not giraffe bone, it's not kudu bone or any other exotic material but it is the one material/pattern combination that drove me to try my hand at the game. Of course, I'm a sucker for a nicely saturated red and sawcut gets the motor humming pretty quick for me. Can't wait for it to show up.

It's going to join the rest of my red sawcut.

Wow those look great... maybe I won’t attempt to dye.

The knife being in your cart doesn’t make it yours until you pay for it. A knife being in your cart doesn’t “hold it” for you in other words.

At any rate, roughly how many times per year does KSF stage one of these feeding frenzies? I talked to somebody there yesterday, and they were very closed-mouthed about that. All I was able to drag out of the guy was that it happens more in a “couple/few times a year” range than in the “10 or 12 times a year” range.

If you go to GEC's website they have production totals on pdfs there. You can look through those for past years and see what Northwoods knives were made. Generally if they are a different pattern then they will be a different NW release. For instance, for 2018 it looks like there were four NW releases.
