Let's talk Northwoods

Well looks like my giraffe bone and red linen Micarta should be here early next week

Contact Knives ship free via phone is what I would recommend and ask to get on there E-mailing list / phone text to get notifications when the next run will be . Also make sure your on a preferred desk or lap top for the fastest speed available . Be ready to buy the minute there out up for sale , don’t fall in love trying to pick one because they will be gone in minutes and that’s no exaggeration , don’t think because you have one in your cart it’s yours because it can and will be takened out of your cart if someone finishes the checkout buy process before you do . Be ready for some disappointments and frustrations “from my experience “ when the first few get snagged right from underneath you .
That is the best advice I can give you and hope it helps and may the force be with you :D

You are spot on with your advice. The last drop of Fayette Jacks were gone in 7 minutes......all of them.

It sucks you can’t examine the bone pics but that’s just how it is these days.

Couldn’t agree more I would of loved to be able to look at one more then a second or two .

My advice came straight from the heart :D lol

"Knives". Not "buying process".
Just a reminder. Those threads on buying NW and others are available in Good Bad and Ugly.

Most, if not all, of the GEC made Northwoods have had half stops. The Queen made Northwoods are a little of both.
My Willamette Whittler didn't and that was GEC. I had the impression from somewhere that half stops was not a Northwoods thing.

As far as I can remember, I've only ever owned the GEC made Northwoods listed below.

Fremont Jack
Delta Jack
Little Bay

Those all had half stops but I'm only going by memory of what I've read on other patterns that I've never owned. I'll be the first to admit that my memory is not a very reliable source of information but my memory bank is under the impression that most GEC made Northwoods do have half stops.

Burnside Jack also had half stops and pretty sure my Bear Lake does too but don't have it handy.

Every NW I’ve owned has had a half stop if my memory serves me correctly .
But I’ve probably only owned 5 or so over the years .

Norfolk, Wilamette, and Presidential are a few without half-stops.

My Fayette Jacks should be here today.

I have one of each Denim Micarta -Northwoods and KSF’s SFOs - that I need to take a pic or two of. I delete all my old pics of knives - too many. I have several ‘rare’ Fremont Jacks in its thread.

FTR, if you haven’t owned a Fremont Jack, and you like Northwoods - you have to own at least one. It’s my favorite pocket knife, but not pattern. There’s something special about a Fremont Jack.

The presidential GEC made Northwoods also doesn’t have halfstops. That was made back in a day where his knives sat on his wesite for months. Unthinkable nowadays.

Yep! I remember perusing Northwoods pocket knives online for weeks, I think its great they are popular, albeit much harder to grab.

It is beautiful is all respects except one.
The tip is so high you can easily catch your skin on it. Same thing I had with one of my 78s.
A bit crazy considering the price tag, and there is plenty of room in the well to sink it.

Dang it.. I was worried that might be the case with the blade shape. Anyone else have that so far?

I think that’s a hit or miss issues . Can be the same run with different results . Fortunately I’ve never had that issue on any knife “knock on wood “

I have a Le Thiers with a proud tip when closed. It has proven difficult to modify because it is a liner lock (no kick to file down) and has a stop pin. I ended up filing down the ricasso a very small amount and that at least kept the tip from catching and opening, though I can still feel the tip when I rub my finger over when it closes. I'm guessing that modifying a Fayette will be easier since it has a kick?
