Like a phoenix? CSC is reborn...

You guys are some amazing photographers! Not sure if anyone here ordered the ram's horn knife, but these are headed to Kentucky now so you should be getting shipping notices within a week or so:

Man, those rams horn look great!

Speaking of great, I received my stag boys knife today. Eric, my friend, you did an amazing job on these!

I couldn't be happier with mine, and only wish I had bought more than one!

Holy Mackrel, those Ram's Horn look amazing!!! Originally I tried to order one. I was called the next day and they explained that they had oversold them. They asked if I would switch to a stag model, which I did. I wish I could have gotten both! Eric, if you have any pull, get them to use Ram's Horn again soon, in a larger batch.:)

Mine arrived today, and though I hate to say it, there are some issues that have me disappointed.

I'll start with the good. The stag is nice and well matched. And the pull is firmly in the 6-7 range. I like the addition of the half stop, which isn't present on the clip blade knives.

But now for the not so good.... The blade isn't straight and almost appears to be krinked. I had trouble getting the focus dialed in on the next couple of pics, but in the first one, you should be able to see the blade taking off toward the right. And thus, when it's closed, the blade is almost riding the liner. I'm not one to nitpick over perfect centering, but this is as close to rubbing the liner as you can get without actually rubbing the liner.

And finally, as a purely cosmetic issue, there's a gap between the liner and the bolster on the presentation side.

Having said all that, I don't think this one knife is indicative of the overall Co-op product. Today I also received my CSC boys' knives in cocobolo and scarlet bone, and both of those are as close to perfect as you could reasonably ask from a production knife. All the same, the stag sheepsfoot leaves a bit of sour taste in my mouth.

One of the ram's horn knives is headed my way, so I'm hoping for better with it.

Those look nice, are the shields pinned?

Not pinned, never could convince Wally on the pinned shields. The only ones we ever pinned were the Bladeforums knives, which went great. I'm still trying though, maybe once we run out of these I'll order hat pins by "mistake". I really prefer the old school through pins though, although it can be an issue on rougher or deeply jigged covers.

Moving forward in the future, do you think you have the problematic issues in production ironed out. We can tend to be a picky bunch when it comes to fit and finish and I think you will have many customers from the forum here if you can have stellar fit and finish. Sadly, if not, I think you could have some difficulty gaining traction with the forum crowd. Thanks.

Thanks for the response Eric. I loved my BladeForums Canal Street and I still lament losing it.

I know sometimes people say glued shields work just as well, but the fact is in my experience they don't. I've had 0 pinned shields fall out and about 5 glued shields fall out. Maybe it's okay on collector pieces. To me though, from the collector perspective, a glued shield feels like a skipped step or a shortcut step.

Awesome Rams horn Eric!

I'm not sure which one will be mine but I'm hoping for the bottom one.

Red Hill sent my shipping confirmation and tracking number a couple hours ago for a Rams horn knife.

Can't wait! I'm going to slip my Moore Maker pinch in white tail in my pocket in anticipation (CSC Made).

A couple things I like about this knife: the pivot pin is significantly bigger in diameter than the GEC #73, for example. I think it makes for a stronger joint. And the liners are steel, not brass.

This is an interesting take. What size is the pivot? Can you see the pivot? GEC uses awg sizes for their pins that are just over 5/64" for pivots and spring pins so I'd be curious to hear what size these are. Typical sizes are 3/32" on modern slipjoints which is pretty minimal for strength differences but it's a pin size that is readily available

Are the liners and bolster stainless or Nickel Silver? The pictures are tough to tell with the high polish.

Definitely keeping my eye on the exchange for a stag. Those look killer and there doesn't look to be any dud covers in the bunch!

Jfowl there was a stag knife on the exchange either yesterday or the day before, really nice one too. I don't think it was up very long though, gone by the time I saw it.

Liners and bolsters on these knives are stainless, pivot pin is .093 (3/32)", spring pins are .086"

that was quick!!!

Here is a picture of the GEC #73 (on the left) and the CSC Boys Knife:

Typically the pivot pin is not visible. I have to hold the knife in just the right position, in just the right light, to see it.
