Like a phoenix? CSC is reborn...

I finally had the opportunity to pick up my Stag Boy's Knife a couple of weeks ago while in the US. I have been carrying it since, but I haven't had the chance to post until now.

In general, I am quite happy with this knife. The hafting is well done, with the stag almost perfectly flush with the bolsters and liners. Nicely polished everywhere and sharp out of the box. Kind of a stiff pull, maybe 6.5 or 7, but still pinchable and it may loosen up a bit when I have the chance to oil it tonight.

There are some tiny imperfections. There is a hairline gap between the spring and liner, extending about an inch from the pin. It is barely visible, requiring a strong light to see it (and my reading glasses). The spring is very slightly proud at the half-stop and very slightly sunken when the blade is fully open. The blade is a little bit off center, but far from any rub. The edge is a touch uneven. I can be quite picky, but none of these things were pronounced enough to bother me.

The only issue is that the stag is not well matched at all. I will be carrying and using this knife, so this isn't that big of a deal to me, but I think some people would probably be quite unhappy about it. I actually like both sides pretty well (although if they were both like the mark I would be really happy), they just don't match in terms of color or texture. Some (crappy and unevenly sized; my apologies) pictures below.

I have a feeling this won't be my last knife from the resurrected Canal Street!

Looks sweet.

Some collectors and cutlers don't view "matching stag" as a goal. I've been told that one side rough and one side smooth (palm side) is best for a user. I have new and vintage knives where they don't match, but they still cut :). Yours match better than some.

I don't mind at all if Stag doesn't 'match', provided both sides are attractive in different ways and around the same thickness. Adds to the 'personality' of the knife

and some folks are so bold, theyll even attempt to even it out themselves! stag just ages so interestingly that its tough to pass up. unless its super thin stag

You guys are some amazing photographers! Not sure if anyone here ordered the ram's horn knife, but these are headed to Kentucky now so you should be getting shipping notices within a week or so:

Darren that one is from the old Canal Street. That's a mighty rare one too, we made VERY few of those boy's knives in ram's horn. I'd say less than a dozen.

Great looking Red Trout JustinR!
