Limited Edition Tyrade

THis knife looks fantastic, but I have just one comment - Four-way clip mounting would help. At minimum, would it be possible to get a reversible clip?

I wanted to add - if possible, it would be awesome to see this knife with OD green G-10...... and lefty clip options.

Hmmmmmm.... Or, maybe...blue G-10?

That is nice! I like the frame lock but with the flipper the liner locks Kershaw offers are very reliable and the thicker liners and the price point make the knife that much more attractive and hard to turn down.

How does that one stack up to the original frame lock in thickness Thomas? Will it end up being about the same or is it thicker?

I would definitely get one (wish it was in orange G-10 too ;-)

I have been pondering using my current Tyrade - this would enable me to have Tyrade goodness for an EDC and still have my good one locked away for safe keeping :-)

Steve the new Tyrade has a .070 thick lock.. About the same as the JYD II... I am guessing that is thinner than the original framelock...?

will these be hard to get a hold of? will dealers have um?

This is an awesome choice on using otherwise usuable but perfectly good blades!
i really look forward to snaggin one... or two... or...

Oh, I followed that much regarding the liner and lock thickness. I was interested in how thick the scales and liners together were for overall foot print in thickness compared to the original. Thanks

I think an alternate color of G10 would be awesome! Hunter Orange, or the bright Blue riffraff cooked up, or maybe that pale G11 that's floating around...but even in standard black, this knife will be great, and pretty affordable, which is a big plus for an EDC, IMHO, YMMV...

Thomas, I was wondering if you guys have seen any of the bi-metal blades come back separated? Under hard use conditions, I wonder if the solder/weld between the two steels may tend to give way... Anyway, I think it's awesome that Kershaw cares so much for the opinions of their customers. I wish every knife company was as open to customer suggestions...

As an aside, STR seemed to imply, and I back his opinion up, that a flipper (doubling as a finger guard) with a stout (well engineered) liner lock is a very decent combination on a folder. I've recently had some serious lock stability issues on an Italian-made, titanium framelock, but none of my Kershaws, liner or framelock, have given me any cause to doubt, yet... :)

If the weld were just a straight line then you would hear of them breaking off, but as is with all the curves you'll snap the blade apart before the weld. After seeing pics of Kershaw's test blades wich had the edge snapped off, the only part that I might be worried about is the tip, where there was a little separation of the weld. The rest of it there was no difference between the composite blade or a solid one.

One person already tried to shoot that theory down privately with me but thats just stuff 'non flipper' makers say in effort to make themselves feel better. :D Truthfully, in my book a pinch by the flipper is a whole lot lesser of the two evils when the other one is a bad cut to the tendon.

I'm also a big fan of the type blade contact and 'pitch angle' Kershaw uses. For the record I mean. :D They do em right! I've tested some of their knives hard and they always came through for me shining brightly. The JYDII is my all time favorite liner lock but I sure jumped on the SG2 JYDII ti frame lock when it came out and I absolutely loved the Tyrade frame lock. What great knives these are is just custom level all the way. The only things for me personally that needed personalized were the clips but otherwise, flawless perfection man! I've actually bought customs not as nice as these were and spent a lot more money. When it comes to made in the USA beefcake folders either liner locks or frame locks I think of these first for combining reliability, strength and great price point all in the same package.
