I got a shipment notification this morning so it should just be a couple more days!!Looks like they just became available on the site. Looking forward to the couple I have coming. Let's see those pics when you all get em.
Whelp, yous rat bats got me fired up to do something I never thought would happen, pulled that there trigger on a micarta sheepsfoot. What the hey, M390, Ti bolsters and tough as nails covers, what's not to like... I'm gonna beat the snot out of this thing, carry it with keys in the same pocket, and get scratches all over the blade from sharpening and using it![]()
I've got a Rams horn Viper in M390 that I've owned for years now, I stopped showing it here after it ruffled a feather one time, many many moons ago... I prefer stainless, but will settle for 1095 if no other option is availableThat's the spirit! As much as I like neo-traditional knives with carbon steel blades there's no match for a modern steel like M390 on an everyday user knife. I avoided the urge to buy a Roundhead and only owned a Shuffler for a short while but once I saw the Dom I immediately placed a pre-order as sheepsfoot/Wharncliffe blades are my favorites.
I was on notify for the horn but can't pull the trigger not knowing what I'll get. Some of it looks great but I don't really like the lighter horn at all.
... must resist ... must resist ... and you guys aren't helping!
How has the centering been with everyone else's? I only have one. A Roundhead in stag. I like it, it doesn't have blade play per say but the blade isn't centered and moves when in closed position?
Thanks. I'll try that today, not sure why I hadn't already lolMight need to tighten the pivot screw under the TI bolster on that one, and you won't have wobble any more. May or may not fix the centering, too.
Ok, I've decided(at least for now, haha) that a Dom will be the one for me. Any advice on covers? I'm actually really liking the idea of micarta. It's tough as nails and I like the natural look enough. Ebony is another that looks really good, but to you guys that've gotten the chance to try them all out, what's your favorite? They all look good, but which one feels the best to you?
Mine are scheduled to drop tomorrow and I got my order in with a reserve so I suspect we'll see a lot of pictures coming in today and over the weekend.
I have the micarta and ebony on order and in route. I'll get some side-by-sides for you. I will say that I like the tactile feel of micarta more for users but I love a good wood handle for a classier look. I have a few different patterns now where I have a micarta user/EDC and a wood collector or dress carry. It more gives me an excuse to get more than one when I have to explain this to my wife.
A side by side would be great. That ebony is calling my name, I know that, haha. My daily traditional carry has been a cocobolo 73 and while I thought wood would be more susceptible to dings and damage, I've been pleasantly proved wrong on that. It's held up incredibly so far, and I carry it loose.
The micarta would make for a great user, though. Something you wouldn't think twice about cutting some brake hoses with and such. If it was black it'd be a no contest, that'd be my choice. I like the natural color, but black would fit the knife better.
All that and I still haven't even talked about the ram's horn! Ah, I thought choosing the knife would be the hard part, the covers are killing me, haha. I'll have to really take my time to consider this. Thanks, though!
You could look into aftermarket handle slabs in Black Micarta.
