Lion Steel Dom

Have a CF on the way. Went with stag and abalone on the 1st run of Roundheads. Got a micarta on the 2nd run. Decided that I'm going to get all of the blade shapes in CF so have a CF Shuffler in my pocket, CF Dom on the way, and will get a CF Roundhead on the upcoming run. These make for great users.

Whelp, yous rat bats got me fired up to do something I never thought would happen, pulled that there trigger on a micarta sheepsfoot. What the hey, M390, Ti bolsters and tough as nails covers, what's not to like... I'm gonna beat the snot out of this thing, carry it with keys in the same pocket, and get scratches all over the blade from sharpening and using it :)

That's the spirit! As much as I like neo-traditional knives with carbon steel blades there's no match for a modern steel like M390 on an everyday user knife. I avoided the urge to buy a Roundhead and only owned a Shuffler for a short while but once I saw the Dom I immediately placed a pre-order as sheepsfoot/Wharncliffe blades are my favorites.

I've got a Rams horn Viper in M390 that I've owned for years now, I stopped showing it here after it ruffled a feather one time, many many moons ago... I prefer stainless, but will settle for 1095 if no other option is available ;)

I was on notify for the horn but can't pull the trigger not knowing what I'll get. Some of it looks great but I don't really like the lighter horn at all.

Didn't the stag option sell out quickly? Yet, no one here have mentioned getting one yet. I have one on the way. I hope for a lot of bark on the scales. I didn't realize I could request that and it is to late now since mine is already on the way. Fingers crossed! Will know Saturday.

... must resist ... must resist ... and you guys aren't helping!

You know you want one.....I am moving my bail and chain knife in front of your eyes as I say this.:) BTW, if you get a ram's horn version with the darker scales and don't like it, I will buy it from you for a $25 discount since it is used.:D:thumbsup::rolleyes:

How has the centering been with everyone else's? I only have one. A Roundhead in stag. I like it, it doesn't have blade play per say but the blade isn't centered and moves when in closed position?

Might need to tighten the pivot screw under the TI bolster on that one, and you won't have wobble any more. May or may not fix the centering, too.

Natural Micarta on the way! This looks to be the best combination, from my perspective, so far.

How are you guys liking these(those that got theirs already)? I've been looking for a new traditional as a little birthday present to myself. I've been deciding between a GEC 66 Calf Roper, a Case Swayback in Damascus, and now I've landed on one of these.

I've always liked the Roundheads when they came out, but never got one. Same with the Shuffler. You really can't beat the price and materials on the Lion Steels. M390 has been my favorite stainless and it's starting to call my name again, haha.

Ok, I've decided(at least for now, haha) that a Dom will be the one for me. Any advice on covers? I'm actually really liking the idea of micarta. It's tough as nails and I like the natural look enough. Ebony is another that looks really good, but to you guys that've gotten the chance to try them all out, what's your favorite? They all look good, but which one feels the best to you?

Mine are scheduled to drop tomorrow and I got my order in with a reserve so I suspect we'll see a lot of pictures coming in today and over the weekend.

I have the micarta and ebony on order and in route. I'll get some side-by-sides for you. I will say that I like the tactile feel of micarta more for users but I love a good wood handle for a classier look. I have a few different patterns now where I have a micarta user/EDC and a wood collector or dress carry. It more gives me an excuse to get more than one when I have to explain this to my wife.

I've been so busy, I almost neglected my reservation email the other day. Nevertheless, I have a Dom in Rams Horn on its way, should hopefully get here next week. I am a big fan of how the horn is done on these Euro Barlows and am looking forward to adding this one to the collection.

Should get here some time next week, I hope.

A side by side would be great. That ebony is calling my name, I know that, haha. My daily traditional carry has been a cocobolo 73 and while I thought wood would be more susceptible to dings and damage, I've been pleasantly proved wrong on that. It's held up incredibly so far, and I carry it loose.

The micarta would make for a great user, though. Something you wouldn't think twice about cutting some brake hoses with and such. If it was black it'd be a no contest, that'd be my choice. I like the natural color, but black would fit the knife better.

All that and I still haven't even talked about the ram's horn! Ah, I thought choosing the knife would be the hard part, the covers are killing me, haha. I'll have to really take my time to consider this. Thanks, though!

You could look into aftermarket handle slabs in Black Micarta.

I was actually just thinking that. Micarta seems like it's my top choice at the moment, it's going to be used pretty often and I think I'll get more function out of it, though I won't deny the ebony looks better as does the ram's horn. The natural shade is starting to grow on me a bit, almost reminds me of a suit from the 70's, haha.

There's a lot of great scale makers on this forum alone, so I could always choose to dress it up later on if I really need to.

I went ahead and bought one with a sheepsfoot blade and micarta handles. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

Is there a good texture/feel to the rams horn? That one I had on notification but the stock pics didn't sell me on it. Maybe if the coloring is a little darker as more pics come out. Just not a fan of the yellowey-white/off-white in a lot of bone and stag.
