Lion Steel Dom

Well I decided to go with the micarta. Pretty glad I did, barring bikerector bikerector 's side by side at least, haha. That may make me change my mind. A bit late now though, unless I feel like getting another one.

I just ordered one! Checked the box on the carbon fiber for me. I have two shufflers on reserve. I am excited to check this bad boy out.

Haha, that's why I just went ahead and got both. I did skimp on some other purchases I wanted earlier this year, like the M4 millie, but this should be worth it. The comment about the 7-8 pull has me a bit excited. I don't mind some of the lighter pulls the recent GEC's have had but a nice stiff blade does feel a little more "right".

My Dom arrived last evening. A great addition to the CK editions! Pull on mine is closer to a 6.

And ... together with my Roundhead and Shuffler ... makes a great addition to my CK editions!

Couldn't agree more on that. I think as long as it's over a 5 I think I'd be content, but 7 sounds perfect to me. Larger slipjoints deserve a stronger pull.

I'm actually pretty excited to try out the blade shape. This'll be my first traditional knife sporting a Sheepsfoot. I've been lusting after a Fayette Jack, and after I compared the two blade profiles they seem to really match up. So if it turns out that like it, I'll probably have to sell a kidney or two just to pay the secondary prices on a Fayette, haha. That's one reason I really couldn't pass up one of these, roughly $120 for M390 and titanium? That's crazy! Extremely difficult to say no to that.

Edited for curiosities sake -

Oh, here's a strange question for anyone in the know.. Why's it called a Dom? I mean I can see while the Shuffler an Roundhead got their names, but what's up with Dom? Haha.

This really makes me want the rams horn. I think the stock picture was too clean as I love a knife handle with character and these certainly have that. Actually why I like micarta too you just have to use it for a while first.

Regarding the blade shape, I find them amazing but I'm a big fan straight edges for utility use and this type of edge, which was a lot like the TC barlow from last years forum knife, is more versatile than a standard sheeps with a rounded tip as the long front is more like a wharncliffe tip so it still punctures bags and things really well and the lack of belly does well to force material into the edge without the difficulty of sharpening like a hawkbill design.

Think I just heard the USPS car zooming around...

Well, my rams horn arrived yesterday and went straight into my pocket. I am blown away! I absolutely love it and can't stop rubbing the scales. Just stunning. I had to wipe the drool off for these pics. Sorry they're not the best, but I had to share.

That Ram's horn is amazing!

Just got my natural canvas and ebony. The ebony is really dark, the micarta came dry so I rubbed on some mineral oil straight away and it shines much nicer now. I got pics for comparison for those interested with an in process one with half the scale oiled and half still factory dry. Much more orange than my GEC moose which has been carried since they first came came out (6 or 9 months I think) and I think I've oiled that one up once but it has stayed darker a lot better than the TC barlow did when I still had that in my possession. Putting this next to my moose makes me realize how much more substantial this is than the TC barlow was, which felt a bit small whereas that moose has been a perfect traditional (main reason I felt the need to pass the TC barlow along to someone else to love).

Finally, the pics.

A little too much anti-seeze on the pivot

Both of these are after oil so I guess you can see how the color of the micarta gets a different sheen in different lighting angles.

And lastly next to the moose

After being oiled the color of the micarta reminds me a bit of that light orange/tan kind of look like osage orange. It's definately taking pocket time from the moose.

Another side note, there is a lot of blade exposed and it's very easy to pinch the blade to open it at the swedge, no need to use the long pulls. I really like barlows where I don't have to use a nail nick so cheers to that. I don't think I ever used the nail nick on the TC barlow either.

Edit: both blades are centered and it looks like they have the same fit and finish. There is a little gap between the scales and bolster but that looks machined that way as the bolster has some radiused machining there and it's consistent with all 4 bolsters between the 2 knives.

Mine arrived as well, Micarta. Excellent little knife, the only thing that put me off at the beginning was that the grind sweeps up a bit towards the tip (cutting edge not completely flat/straight) but judging by The pics of the other knives in this thread this is how it is manufactured and a design choice.
Other than that it arrived centered with good walk and talk and sharp out of the box. Lovely thing and pretty much the essence of a traditional slip joint in modern materials.

I'm impressed! Ordered the natural micarta on Weds. and a shipping label was created at 10:34 that same evening. Not a hot spot to be found anywhere on this knife and the tang is extremely well machined. I cannot find anything to even nit pick on mine, nice and sharp right out of the box, beautiful grinds on the blade and swedges. This package is a bargain having these materials and fit and finish. Well done CK!:thumbsup:

That balck rams horn looks spectacular. Man allot of variation with those ram horn. Also I really loved that un oiled micarta. Makes me wish I had ordered one.
