Lion Steel "Roundhead" Euro-Barlow

What is the official name for that, Butterscotch burlap micarta? Ha ha. Seriously, what is it?

Looks like Thunderstorm Kevlar. That's basically Kevlar fibers interwoven with metal wire. Lightning Strike Carbon Fiber is similar, only carbon fiber. Thunderstorm Kevlar is usually brass wire, Lightning Strike Carbon Fiber usually steel or aluminum or something else white.

Wow. Really cool. I like it a lot. But I like the carbon fiber and the palo santo I got very much. I cannot see myself having mine modded and liking something else that much more. To each his own though. That looks really nice though.

Saw an IG post and didnt even know these existed till about an hour ago. Its just what i wanted traditional with modern materials. Got me the wood one. M390 i love it. Titanium even more. Would have loved to see a micarta version or maybe a more eye catchy wood but i love it regardless. Cant wait to get mine.

Btw my very first slipjoint purchase. Already own a piece of crap imperial that i found somewhere i think and a Victorinox gift i received but never purchase till today. Did some research and found one i loved very much but im a few years late. Would love to own a GEC F&F bullnose (71 pattern i think) with micarta but wishfull thinking on my part.

Welcome to the porch. There's plenty of room.
Congrats on the new score.

If you keep an eye on the exchange, some folks let the micarta 71s go. Some are even in O1 as opposed to the 1095 that is now standard.

That being said, I have since natural and black canvas micarta and I am planning on making some slabs.
Pics will follow.

Not the best pics, but these are so awesome I (almost) want to nix my 25's and buy more Ramshorn. Can't wait to see the stag! I have to agree with Drew, great build quality. You really have to hunt to find any small imperfection. Many thanks Mike!

Im sure there are in the exchange but without an app to notify me immediatelly im pretty sure they get swipped quickly.

Chip, did you mean the pile side by any chance? I think the mark side looks best but both sides are very nice. Some of these really do look like Elk. I can see how that was misconstrued.

Something to bear in mind - a lot of European knives have Stag slabs that are similar looking to American Elk because Red Deer is a similar type of animal, it's not like Sambar Stag for example. You won't find popcorn type. Whiter and more porous, I think it suits this modern design interpretation very well. Similarly, the Ram's Horn will vary a lot depending on the Mufflon it came from, some is dark & bark others smoother and Blonde (my preference on European knives)

Although I wasn't interested in this project, I do think the knives have turned out very well: good variety and obviously excellent F&F, people are likely to be pleased with these knives and it could spark further interest.

I got mine in the mail yesterday. Absolute perfection. Better than many customs that I have handled. Great action, perfectly centered blade, and the real bonus was the nail nick on both sides. Great for us southpaws. So good, that I immediately ordered another, this time in stag! This knife is a real winner!

Update:
I couldn't wait any longer, so I went to my local post office and claimed my prize.

Nice blonde and honey tones with some character and translucency. I am a happy camper.

ETA:
Thanks Mike Latham (@knifeswapper ) for making this a possibility.

Got my stag today! What a beautiful, well put together knife! The fit and finish on mine is perfect, and the action is crisp. This was the exact type of stag I was hoping for. Definitely reminds me of elk. As others have done, I want to thank Mike for making this project happen!

I should also mention the slip that was made for this run. I wasn't expecting to get one as I missed the preorder, but I guess I got lucky. The slip is great! More soft and supple than his normal slips (which are excellent themselves), and with some nice texturing. What a great combo with the knife! Apologies in advance for my poor photography, which does this beauty zero justice.

Going through the thread, it's amazing to see so many happy campers. The traditional-modern synergy everybody anticipated is there and Lionsteel looks to have hit it out the park with their manufacturing quality.
Not being in the US, I've had to settle for a video view of my smooth ram's horn, but even at low resolution, it looks wonderful. Can't wait to get my hands on it for real.

Do they come with the slippy or do u have to purchase seperately? Ordered me the wood piece but didnt add a slip

Did anybody get a bad one? I haven't seen a negative remark yet. Usually somebody will get a lemon from first runs, or a few will just dislike the knife when it arrives. This one appears to be universally well accepted by all who ordered them.

I got two of these - I have no mechanical complaints. I love the carbon fiber, it's done well. My ram's horn is done bad, IMO. There's a torx screw that is sticking out, the slabs are very mismatched, and I'm generally disappointed. I know Mike will take care of it, however, ram's horn was very important to me. I just hope there's another for me to have.

Outside of the ram's horn - on mine - the knives themselves are done well. It took a second for me to get why the knife felt so familiar in hand. It reminds me of an ALOX. Albeit, an ALOX on steroids, but similar in size and shape.

In the end, this knife is a game changer. I 'think' lionSTEEL needs more practice, but they sure came out swinging hard. Moreover, I dislike the etch, get rid of that, and just stick to tang stamps. M390 with CK101 on the other side would have been perfect, IMO.

I agree with the fit of the ramshorn. I'm not displeased with it but it's far from perfection. I don't think it's anything I'd return the knife over though. I also would have preferred a stamp to the etching.

Overall I think the knife is a strong win. Compared to the similarly priced Benchmade Proper you're getting titanium bolsters/liners and M390. The Proper has S30V, not that it is bad but I really like M390.

The Roundhead and Proper are both a bit weak on the backspring compared to my other traditionals. I would say the Roundhead is ever so slightly weaker than my Propers.

I just received my two in the mail a palo santo and rams horn, absolutely beautiful knives. I can believe these have not sold out already! I am contimplating an abalone and maybe even a stag which usually isn't my thing but the pics of the stag you guys have been posting are incredible!
