Living nightmare.

Totally the same thing. Totally.

The guy used his knife and he titled the thread "a living nightmare". That, it ain't. He's 23. I'm sure he'll have plenty of things piss him off and disappoint him in his life. I'd rather not shine him on and give him the impression that this is so horrible, because it's not.

I'd be more worried about the COAX cable damaging my blade! Are you sure it's a real ZT?

Hahaha. It is, really, totally the same.

Agree with Ant. Since there are no pics to confirm this story I'm guessing it's some light microchipping that will sharpen out pfairly easy. Calling this a living nightmare was laughable. I wouldn't even call what the FIL did abuse. Its not like it is a $1000 custom or somebhing. I get it , $150 knife isn't cheap and "some" do like to baby and keep knives as pretty 💅 man jewelry more than anything. Don't want a knife to get used, keep it at home. Cause if you keep it on you it will get used at some point.

Also with Mono questioning it's authenticity. Elmax is a steel I've had zero chipping incidents with, even using for things I shouldn't have. I'm sure the damage was from something else than coax cable if is real ZT. Would like to see pics of the knife in question.

Chalk it up as a lesson learned.

Now you know what to buy your future father in-law for Christmas..... a cheap knife that he can destroy himself.

If you plan a career in law enforcement, don't let this kind of stuff bother you. "Don't sweat the petty stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff."

Lol...just goes to show that even with the strongest, toughest knives the weakest part remains the edge.

Good post
:D

I think getting him a decent knife and showing him some knife care hints is the best advice. If he had his own he wouldn't have needed to pick up your's in the first place.
Get your blade sharpened, get him his own and let it go.

I forgot about that part.

Yeah if you are in a "living nightmare" due to some dude using your knife for a job...you have a world of hurt coming working in law enforcement. I don't know what type of job you are planning but imagine drunks throwing up in your patrol car, inmates throwing crap at you, fighting, jacked up work schedule and days off, ironing polyester uniforms, getting pepper sprayed for your training and every other time you end up using it, terrible coworkers and chain of command, there are a million of them.

Again, don't leave your tools laying around, better NEVER even consider that with your sidearm, and learn to sharpen! It will be ok. Don't ask for a new blade because the edge may be a little dinged up, that is RIDICULOUS! You won't be turning in your sidearm because it got a little dirty on your 150 ROUND qualifications, right? Nope! Gotta learn to clean that bad boy, gotta learn to sharpen your knife.
Best of luck!

Yep it was on purpose, lol. He knows what your doing do his daughter lol.

Luckily yours was just a knife my father in law when I first met him took my car... Ended with guns being pulled and a pissed off drunk father in law threatening to bite my nipple off.

Not even sure what this thread is about, but I can't stop laughing at this. :D Thanks! I really needed a laugh.:cool:

Use his car to pull out a tree stump.

If we were in a different forum, I'd give different advice!

Wow, double post a day appart!

You say the guy "used" the knife, the OP says there are nicks in the edge. I see a big difference between simply "using" a knife, and causing damage.

I for one never took the title seriously. I assumed it was a comical exaggeration. And I still do. I don't take everything posted on this forum literally (reminds me of the thread where a guy said he wanted "bomb proof" handle material, and some people took him literally and mocked him for it).

And in a way it is the same- someone touches your property without your permission and causes a little damage. Whether a bike or a knife, it's not the end of the world, and the item isn't reduced to useless junk, but I think it's perfectly reasonable to be upset. Even more so if the item is of high value to you, and if you paid for the item with your own hard-earned money.

Whether it's bikes or knives or cars or clothes or shoes etc, etc, some people like to keep their personal property in the best condition possible, and I think that it's perfectly reasonable for them to do so. And while I agree with you that I wouldn't regard it as "horrible" or a "living nightmare" if their property suffered a little damage by others, I also wouldn't suggest that people were wrong or silly to be somewhat upset about it.

If I damage my knife/bike that's one thing, but if someone else damages my knife/bike as a result of touching it without my permission I'd be pissed.

I didn't leave it on a living room coffee table or really anywhere in the open. It was my girlfriends room on a nightstand tucked into my sweatshirt. And I will certainly try to sharpen the knife (like I said it's not a skill I've honed in on just yet). If I really screw it up in the process I'll probably do a blade replacement or send it to get sharpened elsewhere. I have a sharpmaker and I can use it fairly well but I need ultra fine rods for it. And as for the relationship....it won't affect my attitude toward him or my girlfriend. He saw a knife and needed to use it so he did. It is a little to ride in my opinion to grab/use something without asking but what's done is done. I'll move on and things will be fine. Life is too short to cause any raucous over something like this!

If you consider your $200 knife actually being used a "nightmare," then youve had a pretty cush life and are in a rude awakening.

I realize the title may be a little dramatic, but everyone can be a little dramatic. By no means am I saying this compares to anything even remotely horrifying. Growing up in a military family and seeing my father constantly being deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan was a living nightmare, for him, but also me because my dad is my best friend and seeing him leave sucked. The title was just meant to grab people's attention and to see if anyone ever had any similar experiences. But I see people are over sensitive about the title, so my apologies.

I can get a hair splitting edge with the medium stones , fine just refines that. You can get a much sharper than out of box with your setup now.

You could send it back and have the company ReSharper it or send it to Jason on here or if you know someone with a wicked edge etc. Lotta steel to throw away just because it's dull

Bought it from Kershw Guy, so yes it's authentic. It will sharpen out, they aren't gauges, but when you run your nail down the edge you can feel the roughness in the spots and feel I guess something of a burr (there could be a better way to describe what it is, but like I've said I'm not great at sharpening nor do I have the proper vocabulary for t down)

So, your girlfriend's pop comes into her room and pilfers around in your garments? Very interesting. 🤔

I guess what confuses me are the angles. If ZT edges come at a different angle, wouldn't it be a pain to use it on the sharpmaker or are the angles that manufacturers use pretty across the board? 30-40 degrees (inclusive)?

No that's not it haha. The cable he cut was right near he nightstand so he saw I had knives on top the sweatshirt (my 0452cf was slightly tucked under the sleeve) so the 0450cf was more visible and he grabbed it and used it. They honestly so like me, but he just doesn't know a whole lot about knives. It wasn't a big deal at the end of the day. What annoyed me the most was him using t without asking

"Living Nightmares":
1) Homeless, living on the street, with a wife and children.

2) Spending decades behind bars for a crime you did not do. ( or worse, being executed for a crime you did not do.)

3) Being an active participant in any war zone.

4) Politicians of both major parties (USA)

5) Lost at sea - in a sinking boat.

There are, of course, more, but I'll stop now.

I honestly didn't really think of s great title name. It's just what came out. Obviously there are much worse things. Just wanted people to read my post and share any similar experiences.
