Lost in the wild. Which knife?

buck 110. If I was "randomly tranported into the woods" You probably catch me with a 110 and a stockman anyway.

Well, there was a time, 'Before the Enlightenment', that my Buck 110 was a hiking carry all of the time. I suppose it would still be quite useful!

Looking over my folders, the CS Ultimate Hunter would do the trick as well. Its built like a tank.

I never go out anywhere without my EDC knives - Buck/Strider889 & Vic. SAK Soldier ! & when I go into the woods I NEVER go with out a good fixed blade !!! I pack my RATS - RAT3 & 7 !:D

I'd buy a Buck 110 and a Victorinox Fieldmaster. Both about $25 at my local knife shop. Buy them both; whatever the Fieldmaster can't do, the 110 will.

For being lost in the woods and only having one knife under the 50.USD price tag, its just got to be a medium Case Stockman pattern # 5318..

One never knows how long one will be stuck their until they can either walk out or be found..

Also, I have half a dozen Buck 110's and although the most popular response here it cannot preform even half the necessary chores that a good multi-blade slipjoint can..

Try to remember fellows, its not the size of the knife, its the size of the brain-pan that is important.. Like perhaps, building shelters, making camp fires, finding food sources, retrieving and keeping fresh water..ect.. ect..

Food for thought,
Anthony

Your question doesn't fit a backpacker at all. If I'm backpacking, I will be carrying a fixed blade Bob Dozier "General Camp and Hunting", or a Bark River Northstar, and a sidearm.

If I'm just out for a day hike, I'll have my normal EDC, just the same as if I was in town. That will be either the BM 610 Rukus (S30V) or the BM 710 D-2, or maybe my new Spycerco Millie CPM D-2.

I carry these to church, the supermarket, to work and the theatre, so why would I carry a lesser knife on a hike in the woods??

Yo bend,

Who gives rats ar$e what you think of the situation the thread-man has put us in??. If'n you don't like the circumstances here, than don't respond..

If you can respond under the guidelines here than kindly reply.. Otherwise keep your Dozier's(which I happen to have 5 at the moment) and your Bench Mades and your Spydies and your other opinions to yourself!:thumbdn:

And if, and when you become a moderator, you can tell me what to do. Until then, you can go shove your ignorant and arrogant opinions up your nose!l!:D

Since I carry a 4" CS Voyager and Victorinox OHT all the time anyway, either should do. Nothing wrong with the Buck 110, but the Voyager is so light, I hardly notice I 'm carrying it.

The Best knife to have when you get lost in the Wild is the one you have on you when you got Lost.

Nobody plans on getting lost, but you can plan ahead by carrying the best with you when you travel or hit the woods.

BTW I like the Buck 110 as a good heavy all round knife and the best bang for the buck (money).IMHO
