M2 TRYOUT!

oldmanwilly oldmanwilly tinfoil hat timmy tinfoil hat timmy you guys we'd love for you to open up free accounts and play with us. We typically do "Daily" games, ie 7 or 14 day games, meaning you have up to that much time to deliberate over any given move. We don't typically take that long per move though, and sometimes make multiple moves in a day. Wild Willie Wild Willie and I will play rapid and blitz together often enough, which involves 3 or 10 minutes (or other options) in which for each player to make all his or her moves. That is like a drug to me. I've been playing game after game through dinner, and in between checking bladeforums.

I was looking at those saw blades and looks like they come 1/16” thick. Since they’re tempered already, is there a big concern about ruining the heat treat when cutting the profile and grinding the bevels in?

I’m going to have to look into that chess site as well. It’s been a whiiiiiiile though

Nope. Small concern. It is high speed steel meant to cut other steels at... high speed. So it is good with friction, and I discovered it dissipates heat very quickly for its volume. Once I got the give away knife ground as thin as the pass around knife, I decided to go thinner still, and on one pass I did indeed manage to turn a very small section of the blade to a primary or secondary shade of blue. I pressed the edge against my vise, and snapped it right off. The section was very tiny, and after a quickly resharpen, and test again against the vise it was good to go, with no more deformation or damage upon moderate pressure of the edge pressed against the vise. And it sharpened up just fine too.

So yes, a heavy handed grinding technique with no regard for increasing frequency of cooling intervals proportionate to decreasing thickness would probably damage the edge beyond usability. So I don't do that (with any steel).

I’m going to have to look into that chess site as well.

That would be awesome!

off to the next member tomorrow sir!

I just got her in! She looks nice. Man, she is feather light. Nice work on the cord wrap, Timmy. And nice packaging in a box also, well done.
I just had my second granddaughter born Tuesday, so I'll be spending a lot of time at my son's house through the weekend spoiling my grandbabies.
That's the great thing about being a grandparent - you can visit your grandbabies and hug and kiss on them and spoil them rotten, and then go home. Lol!
I'll probably add a pic here and there for the next few days, but I probably won't write much about the knife until Monday. I'm glad that I got in on the M2 Tryout: It's pretty cool. Thanks, David!
I was thinking about making a Kydex pancake sheath for her. I'll add the Kydex that I have in thumbnails at the bottom and yall can pick which look that you want to see for her sheath. I need more practice on making Kydex sheaths anyway- I'm still a rookie, so don't expect perfection. Talk to you guys later.

Thank you Robert.

How hard is the steel in this blade? My HRC65 file just skates across it. It must be harder than 65HRC.

I am also having a problem with the eyelets splitting on me. You can see it in the photo. So, I put a couple of my eyelets that I bought several months ago, and they split also. The bottom left eyelet is the only one that didn't split - I bought them several years ago, and I'm sorry to say that I don't have many of them left.
I bought mine from knifekits. I guess I'll have to source some out from somewhere else. I'll contact them first I guess and see if they noticed the problem and found some better eyelets.
