M4 Ti Millie Alert!!!

I personally don't care what they do with it. With the materials involved, I just want one.

Yes. I have many, many knives in rotation and if I forget to clean one, it can be a while before I take a look at it again. So one slip up can have tragic results. I'd rather be able to use it and not stress about it. Although, with an uncoated edge, I guess its still going to have to be cleaned after use.

I'm hoping for coated as well. I really don't want to do any maintenance whatsoever.

I'll take extraordinary performance with a little preventative care any day......but hey, that's just me:D

Rust does not worry me, a G10 sale does. Not sure I can bring myself to buy a knife that doesn't suit my sense of symmetry.

That's right. "No maintenance whatsoever" is not an option. My younger son, who hasn't yet absorbed metal care lessons, has an M2 710 that has a coated blade. He took it out at one point, found it was dull and brought it to me. The edge had rust on it. I resharpened it, but a stainless blade wouldn't have done that.

This knife is for Afi's, and a limited percentage of them at that. The vast majority of these knives will be sold to either collectors or those like me that plan to use them hard but I will use preventative maintenance like oiling it often, especially putting drops of oil near the pivot. If you don't want a very high performance steel that can rust then don't buy it. I'm sure Roger will easily sell his 500 units to Afi's and collectors, and the vast majority will know what they are in for. If they don't shame on them for not researching their expensive purchase.

The S90V Millies went FAST!

It looks like the CPM M -4 Millies will be sold out before they're even shipped.

Why not offer these two top end steels in the regular production line-up?

I bought one of the CPM M4 Benchmade 710s from Roger. The steel is outstanding.
I removed the coating from mine and haven't had problems with rust.

Looking after knives is part of the fun!

I reserved one of these Millies - should be outstanding. G-10 / Ti slab has been working great for Strider, among other knifemakers.

I've always hankered over a non-stainless spyderco folder, not sure why. I generally don't like dropping big bucks on an EDC folder, as $30-$70 Spydercos have as good fit and finish as you can get, with great performance and ergonomics as well... Might have to go for this, though.

I'll say this. of all the coatings out there Spyderco's DLC is good stuff, looks nice and holds up well; it won't bother me in the least should it come this way. If it comes uncoated I'll keep it maintained same as the other non-stainless blades I own. So many more places for moisture to hide and rust to form on a folder though.

+1 on Roger, good to do business with

hmm, looks like I need to go handle a few Millies. I considered the Tenacious to be about the upper level of size for my folders to carry. Anyone have side by side pictures with the Tenacious? I think the g10 millies weigh about the same, but have about half an inch more blade... It's mostly closed thickness, and weight that I'd be concerned about, though... hrm... This knife is so tempting though.

A Military is a lot bigger than a Tenacious. If you buy and it's not what you want you could just resell it, no problem. Or you might just keep it. :D
Sorry no pics of these.

I'm on the list for one myself . Although I hope not, I assume they will be coated blades . . .

Sounds like this was a great idea that Roger and Spyderco came up with. This model is burning up the pre-orders!

Whenever I get a coated blade, I immediately remove the coating and polish the blade.

Coating a blade may look "cool" but it seriously degrades the blade's cutting ability. And a blade, LIKE ANY OTHER TOOL will never rust if it's properly maintained.

Yeah, Millies are "bigger" as in longer, but they somehow carry smaller than a Tenacious. They are certainly are not as broad open or closed as the Tenacious, so that probably has something to do with their smaller feel.

[SNIP] ... Looking after knives is part of the fun!

Agreed!
