Manix2 CPM S110V

It is FRN and not FRCP. Don't know if what is better than the other or why they changed. Also, Sal lead on that this "midnight" blue will be the S110V color. I am assuming like the BRG is the ZDP-189 color. This knife is reported to be .1oz lighter than the FRCP version.

Thanks for the info. As always, appreciate it.

Wait, this model.. the S110V one is lighter than the original translucent model??

Here is what I usually use to touch up, including S110V...

I'm not really a steel junkie, but from what I understand, S90V is the steel everyone clamors for more than most any other (just from what I see). What's the differences between that and S110V besides them both being highly wear resistant? The most wear resistant steel I own is M4 and reprofiling can be a bitch. How much more would you say 110V is over M4?

Depends I guess. :)

Just touch it up once in awhile when the edge starts to lose some bite and you will be fine.

This might be a dumb question but seeing I am a sharpening noob, I will ask anyway! Just for maintenance, can I just use the fine side of the double stuff or will I need to use the medium or both? I am talking about routine sharpening every so often after use and not letting the edge get too dull!

Thx.

P.S. Love the 701MF profile set. Darn shame they were discontinued! :(

Like everyone else, I'm excited to get this knife. Mine is expected to ship today which I'm really happy about. Never had a blade in S110V. Supposed to be great stuff. I keep hearing it's like S90V but juiced up. I love my trans blue manix but I found the edge retention to be poor on BD1. I suppose that problem is solved now.

Anyone know with first hand experience how S110V compares to M390 or the other versions of it (20CV/204P)? Cause M390 is by far my favourite blade steel currently. I find it has great edge retention, toughness, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening. From what I've read, S90V is hard reprofile. I'm assuming S110V would be similar in that regard.

Yeah, what do you want to know?

I have a lot of experience with both...

Well I was just wondering how the toughness (specifically proneness to chipping), ease of sharpening, and edge retention is on the S110V compared to M390.

Thanks

Sharpening is the same....

Reprofiling there is a difference as in S110V will take longer.

Chipping will depend on the actual heat treatments and tempering process.... Both are about the same in my experience, no issues with either.

There is a large difference in edge retention between the two, S110V has much higher wear resistance and edge retention.

Thanks man that's good info.

Definitely looking forward to using this steel. Got the email confirming my order shipped out. Shipping to Canada though. Hoping the wait won't be too long.

I may sit this one out! I've had such back luck with the FRN Spydercos I've purchased recently (Endura Aogami SB, Native Lightweight CTS-XHP, Stretch SB) that I hope they make a G-10 version of this S110V Manix 2. FRN just doesn't like me! :(

I've got one of these beautiful babies coming on Monday.

What was your issue with the SB Stretch? I picked one of those up and was totally pleased with it.

Blade not centered and could not get it so. I think I'm spoiled with the high quality Taichung Spydercos which admittedly come at premium prices.

Just placed my pre-order with Knife Center this Thursday morning which shipped out Friday afternoon. I will be attempting a blade swap on my older hollow ground 154cm Manix2 G-10. If it works, talk about a new lease on life for an old knife. Can't believe nobody's done a blade swap yet.

All of those models are from seki city japan and the manix 2 light weight is made here in the USA. This may or may not make a difference with the "problems" you have been experiencing with FRN.
