Maxpedition Bottle holder kit, review and pics

I agree. If I throw the strap over my head onto my opposite shoulder, then the bottle holder is riding right at my elbow. I'm thinking of breaking out the para cord and trying to make a 1-foot (or maybe longer) extension.

I was too lazy to play with the para cord, so bought a SpecOps Accessory strap - it's about 6" or so longer. Not as good as I hoped, but it does drop the bottle holder below my elbow; making it more comfortable when I walk.

What I may do is break out the heavy-duty thread and sew the SpecOps and the Maxpedition straps together...

Or you could get the Maxped Janus extension pocket -- be a good place to carry a FAK, and adds 8-13" of length to the shoulder strap.

I thought about that - but then I would need to add a matching buckle onto the strap and move the snap clip to the Janus pocket; or cut the strap and add the buckles to the cut ends...

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Oh, I was thinking the snap clips were held onto the strap with the fastex buckles so you could just snap the extension in. Oh well, that's what I get for thinking! :p

I'd sure appreciate it if you could give me the maximum overall length, including the clips, of the Maxpedition and the Spec-Ops straps. Thanks

I just picked up some 1.5" tan and some OD webbing from ebay. Now I just have to start up the sewing machine :D

My Maxpedition strap is 52 inches and the Spec-Ops is 59 inches. The Spec-ops works great with my Spec-ops S.O.B. and is better with the 10x4 but is still too short. This just gives me a reason to learn to braid up some para-cord. I should also disclose that I suspect my strap is required to go more than a little bit further than most peoples. :D

Thanks for the measurements. I'm tall so that helps a lot.

Anyone know how close the Max and Spec-Ops foliage green color match is?

The SpecOps strap is much thinner and more flexible. The Maxpedtion strap has a 'rougher' weave that makes it look darker.

Here are pictures of my foliage green SpecOps strap, foliage green Maxpedition strap, and foliage green Maxpedition 12x5 bottle holder. If you look close, you can see my olive drab Mora clipped to the side of the bottle holder.

That's just awesome jfmitch. Your pics really put things into perspective. Thanks!

Either one would probably work for me. Guess I'll order both.

JayHawk - glad to have been of assistance! :)

thatmguy - that looks pretty cool; is that an altoids tin?

Finally picked up a couple of cocoon pouches and other necessities from twowolves and finished my 10x4 setup. Love this thing!

Actually it is a container that comes with a plastic cup of cheese spread inside.

Picked them up at a discount store (Odd Lots/Big Lots) for a couple bucks a piece.

Fit perfectly.

Ok, maybe I'm an idiot or maybe someone already posted but does anyone have a closeup of an attached tactie? I'm trying to put my cocoon on with a tactie and once I get it "hooked", it seems like the cocoon is "limp" for lack of a better term.

Feel free to go ahead and post close up pics but I dug around and found a couple of malice clips that I've had for awhile and used one of those to attach it.

my 5x7 does not ride as close to the bottle holder as everyone elses. it just flops around:mad:

so it is resting in the closet until i have another go at it.

It took me a bit of trial and error to figure out the Tacties. I found a bunch of pics and had a go several times before it held my Cocoon pouch just right.
