Maxpedition Bottle holder kit, review and pics

You could probably use one of the round tins that Altoids Sours come in. :)

... it would be nice if the strap was a bit longer...

I agree. If I throw the strap over my head onto my opposite shoulder, then the bottle holder is riding right at my elbow. I'm thinking of breaking out the para cord and trying to make a 1-foot (or maybe longer) extension.

Where can I get the cup on the bottom of the canteen in the pic below?

Nice ones guys;
Here are my 2

A 10x4 khaki with a HSGI Blowout pouch with CRK knife, and a ANEMONE pouch for short treks. For longer treks I have a 12x5 OD with low profile pouch(Thank you very much TwoWolves;)) and a M1(I think :) ) and I will have a probably either my RAT RC3 or TAK attached to the back.

I have a Snowpeak Ti Solo cup set up that will go in either and a Brunton LP stove to go in the bottom of the 12x5. The rest of the pockets are my next project, I'm thinking , one for First Aid and one for fire making and survival items..... Any ideas ?????

I picked up a 10x4 and strap mainly for my wife. The bag is great but it would be nice if the strap was a bit longer. Anyone have a lead on a tin that is the correct size to fit under the bottle to build a psk around?

Our local Odd Lots/Big Lots had a 2 pc can that held a cheese spread that fits perfectly into the lid of either.

Only had to peel label and clean off glue.

I'll try to get pics up this weekend.

I've been using my new 10x4 on my last two hikes and really like carrying it around. It makes me stay selective about the gear I take with me because it doesn't allow me to overpack. My back stays dry since I don't have to lug around my daypack. A definite benefit in the warmer months.

I've got a 38oz Guyot with a bag of trail snacks on top under the lid and a Leatherman Charge Ti, mini compass and an Altoids tin with first aid stuff, a lighter, JK Tin knife and a mini Sharpie in the pocket. I can put my keychain (with whistle and Photon) or cell phone in there as well, but not both. A cargo pocket on my shorts carrys the one not in the 10x4 pocket. Neat and tidy and compact.

I'm looking forward to receiving my Cocoon pocket so I can add a few select items, but I doubt I'd need more room for dayhikes and an emergency overnight with a space blanket crammed in there. Great stuff! I'm glad I read this thread.

That low profile pouch looks to be just what I was looking for to replace the pouches on the side of my bottle holder, how did I miss that maxped product :) Thanks for the pics James

No problem;
Twowolvesoutdoors has it listed as a MAXPEDITION 7x5x2 Vertical Pouch and is a special order but it didn't take long for Lisa to get it in.

For some time I've been reading this thread and selling/buying knives and kit to create what I hope to be a long lasting dayhike kit. I apologize for the poor quality of the photograph (I'll use the digital camera next time, instead of my cell phone). I also built this kit around two knives: RAT Cutlery Izula (attached to kit) and RC 4. The specs are similar with some added pieces to the kit:
Maxpedition 10x4 (I prefer the smaller size)
-Guyot Design's "Backpacker"
-GSI cup
-Tea bags and small fire kit on bottom
-I prefer the cup on top of the bottle for ease of removal
Front Pouch
-Gerber Diesel multi-tool
-"Write in the Rain" journal
-pencil
-large LMF firesteel
-Altoid Tin Survival Kit
-added bungie-paracord to front for added things such as gloves
Maxpedition Cocoon
-flashlight
-firesteel
-small FAK
-compass
-walter filtration straw
Maxpediiton Roly-Poly (standard size and attached to the side unseen. This may be my favorite and most versatile piece of gear. I've attached it to many different packs. For this kit it remains rolled up unless I want to take extra food, a rain jacket, a book, I can even fit my rolled up Army poncho.)
Maxpedition 2" Shoulder Strap
-added the shoulder pad from my Max. Colussus
-attached a paracord bracelet with 25' of cord
-attached the RC Izula via molle clip. The knife hangs parallel to the strap (see photo) and is easily accessible when standing, crouching, or sitting.

First Impressions:
I prefer to carry this kit with a shoulder strap. I've added two tac-ties to the back for belt carry, but find the shoulder pad/strap and knife combo to be great for everyday hiking. The weight is more than okay for a long hike and it carries more 'stuff' than I first expected. The only thing I would change is the zipper for the bottle holder, mine seems to continually snag on the extra fabric overlapping the zipper (I just need to be more careful when opening the pouch. And if you are wondering where the RC 4 got to, it's riding on my belt, but to be honest, there is little in the course of an average day hike that I would need more knife than the Izula for). The Izula is a great little knife. Thank you to everyone on this thread for recommendations and ideas about how to best use this piece of kit.

I cannot forget to thank Two Wolves Outdoors. They are GREAT to work with and assisted me in every way!!! Most of the kit (with the exception of the Roly-Poly, strap pad, paracord bracelet and survival kit stuff) came from TWO. Thank you for the great customer service!!!!

Flash forward to now and I've received my Cocoon pouch and shoulder strap pad. Thanks Lisa! Fast shipping!!

In between reading threads here I'm weaving TacTies and stuffing the pouches and seeing how it all works together. Fun stuff!

I know this is a great idea because when my wife asked me what the new gear was for I explained that it was for day hikes with my 2 1/2 year old this summer when I'm on vacation.

The best part was that she didn't even roll her eyes, which is usually the reaction I get when she sees a new package arrive at the house.:D

Now how do I convince her that my kiddo needs a new Laconico and Koster that will hopefully arrive in the near future?:o
