Maxpedition Bottle holder kit, review and pics

I could try a step by step tac-tie thing (post pics) later this week if it's necessary, it is a bit confusing at first. Won't have time until this weekend though.

Just use it the same way you do a Malice clip. Pull it all the way up through, then weave it through the opposite webbing. :)

Its the weaving on the second set of loops that keeps things from bouncing around. You can't just go behind both sets of loops or you'll have too much play in the pouches.

I followed others same setup and have this. Sits well on the back, helps keeps things to a minimum for day hikes. Feels like a good hot weather setup.

Here's the tac tie shots that might help.
(Lisa at Two Wolves Outdoor has everything you need! Thanks Lisa!)

Inside are basics.
32oz Nalgene
Janus pouch ~ Cell phone, smokes, gum.
Cacoon pouch ~ Basic first aid kit and medications.
Front zipper pouch on 10x5 ~ Vic Farmer, whistle, firesteel, compass.

3" tac tie used on my Busse Cultellus knifes Amoralleather X-loop sheath.

I set up a 12x5 the same way for cool/cold weather hikes. I can put my SS Guyot, cup and burner in it to warm up tea or soup.
I have 7x5x2 & 7x5x4 MaxP vertical GP pouches I can use in place of the Janus pouches but they are a little wider than the Janus. I bought them because late fall, winter hikes cause me to add a few things i wouldn't have in warmer weather.
I tend to overpack so these setups will train me to keep it to a minimum.

Thanks for all the pointers in this thread. This really is a great little pack!

Hey Porcupine,
Since you have both the 10X4 and 12X5, which do you prefer? I ordered a falcon 2 and want to attach these to the sides of the pack.

porcupinemtns66,
thanks a million!!!

now that saga is over...i just gotta figure out what is going where & get some sort of organization

While I don't have both (just the 12x5) I have played with both and have camped at a bare bones trip where this was the basis for the whole kit, along with everyone else using their 12x5 or 10x4 with two extra pouches.

The consensus for our group was that the 10x4 was great, if your interest was primarily a water carrier to attach to a pack. The 12x5 is overkill for this, but is much better suited as a base for an independent minimal kit.

@PorcupineMtns66 - that's a gorgeous snakeskin culti you have there! I missed out on those :(

If it helps anyone with attaching this stuff together, here's Maxpedition's tutorial on TacTies:

Hey Porcupine,

For short hikes I'm going to use the 10x5 most of the time. If its brutally hot then the 12x5 will go because a 48oz Nalgene bottle fits in the 12x5 perfectly. http://www.nalgene-outdoor.com/store/detail.aspx?ID=60
In winter the 12x5 will get the most use. A 38oz SS Guyot nested in a GSI cup and a fuel can and burner fit on top of that with the ability to zip the top closed.
The compact size of the 10x5 would be nice for your Falcon 2 which has a bladder. Detach it for short hikes while camping.
If you get the P-Falcon 2, it has bottle webbing on both sides already but no bladder and a little less capacity.
