I personally feel people that keep knives in safes are retarded. I buy them to use, not look at. To each his own. Knives are pretty simple tools. Timascus and all the other bullshit like bearings and shit are just that. Goofy shit. It'd be hard to compare Medford knives to one of these "fancy" knives your used to collecting because that would require someone to actually use them. God forbid they actually come out of the safe and be tested. But we all know those knives aren't actually meant to be used or purposeful. They are in fact, doing exactly what they were meant for, looking cool on a shelf or being pulled out of a safe. In the end it's whatever makes you happy....

This board has members who are collectors of ALL kinds. So what if people have knives they like to keep in a safe? Does that hurt you? No? Then what does it matter? Keeping knives in safes is retarded? Really? Foul language to describe bearings or timascus? Wrong.

I wouldn't mind trying out a Medford, especially if it were free or extremely discounted. 
I have knives that are in the thickness/weight range of the Medfords, and some of them work pretty well (other cut like a brick though, or required hours of reprofiling to make them work right).
They don't make me more of a badass than when I am carrying any of my other knives though, so I doubt a Medford would amp-up my badassitude either.

I've had a couple of medfords (187rmp and tff1) and have another on order.
They are most definitely fun knives due to their ridiculousness. They are most certainly well built.
In my opinion the designs are not the most refined and they are over priced for what they are.
I'd recommend picking up one 2nd hand to avoid the hit.

I'll be honest, it's not my cup of tea. Everything is thicker and heavier and bigger than my use requires. I don't see many situations where their designs are my best choice. Plus, the owner comes off a little weird in his YouTube videos.
That said, I haven't seen a single case where Medford was unfair to customers. Their warranty requires you not to disassemble a knife, but based on what I've heard and seen as long as you follow that they will take care of you. While some of the videos rub me the wrong way, I can't say I've ever got the feeling that anyone at Medford was less than completely upstanding and doing everything in their power to take care of the customer. Their build quality has been knocked by a few here and there but the majority of owners have nothing but positive reviews of the build. I've not owned one but I believe the positive reviews that say their knives are built very well.
Then we have the cutting ability. As much as it looks to my eyes like a sharpened pry bar, nearly every owner states it cuts well. Seems the area behind the blade is thin and for most daily chores it works as good as anything. Not my first choice for food prep but far better at daily tasks than the spine thickness would have you initially guess. And they seem to all come very sharp out of the box.
For me, it's not ideal. I don't do anything that benefits from the extra size, weight, and toughness. I get along most days with a Chaparral. But I get it if it's your thing. If you enjoy that end of the spectrum, like I enjoy the opposite end, then it probably is a knife that is a decent value. It's tough for me to say it's a bad value, as while that is certainly true for my tastes, it only is a miss in form factor so if the form factor is good for you it may be a home run.

He's right, though. For tampon cord cutting, you want a thin, slicing blade. I recommend an Opinel in carbon steel with a polished convex grind. It's what I use. :thumbup:
