Michal Melichercik, traditional shepherd knives

Two traditional shepherdโ€™s knives.
Worth mentioning is the one made of carbon Damascus steel. The handle is made from wood that I had overlooked for years, even though I had it right under my nose the whole time. Cytisus scoparius. It is an inconspicuous shrub, known more for its flowers. The wood is medium-hard and has very dense annual growth rings.

The customerโ€™s request was to combine a traditional design with improved ergonomics.
This knife is the result of that process.
I tried to keep the classic lines while refining the grip and overall balance for better comfort in use.

I stayed away from this material for a long time. When I wanted stronger colors, I usually went with stabilized wood. Lately though, I picked up some micarta and G10 and plan to use them on folding knives.
I havenโ€™t really gotten into modern styles and folders on this forum yet. Sometimes itโ€™s good to experiment a bit. Iโ€™ll find some time and post something here. ๐Ÿ™‚

An older piece, made around 2017. I created this set as a wedding gift. A knife and belt for the groom, and a hairpin with earrings for the bride. The design was inspired by traditional folk motifs from the Novohrad region and Podpoฤพanie in Slovakia. The embossed decoration is further enhanced with copper tauzia placed in the center of the floral patterns. Materials used: copper, nickel silver, carbon Damascus steel, and bog oak. I no longer remember the exact dimensions, but it was a small knife.
