Mick Strider has some explaining to do.

Really? If Jane Fonda or someone with similar past trangressions championed a favorite cause of yours, how would you feel? And which part of the gtatement did you find offenive? The one where i said I would be satisfied if he stopped lying and offending a goodly number of the very same people he claims to support or the part where I said that I would have very mixed feelings about meeting him?

Jane Fonda vs. Mick Strider? Come on give us all a break. For all practical purposes Fonda committed high treason on television for the world to see and should have been prosecuted and then hung. Mick Strider committed a felony and paid his dues a decade ago. Apples and oranges.

Would some of you prefer for him to be homeless or sucking down welfare for the rest of his life as penence for his crime? Gimma a break, he runs a successful business and now with some things he, gasp, helps people along the way.

Some people won't buy Japanese cars because they're built in Japan. If you don't like the product because of the man behind the company don't buy his stuff. But please don't equate him to a traitor and quit kicking him in his internet balls.

I'm done.I think the link says itall, but if anyone wants to, they can seek further clarification.

There’s plenty of shame to go around but not for questioning Mick’s background or motives.Mike

Unholy, f-n, SHE-ite!!! That's the closest thing to an "epihany" as I've ever been privy to here at 'ol BF. Boats, you're an inspiration! Speaking strictly from my own personal experience, anger coupled with an all to easily garnered sense of self-rightious indignation can easily lead to a "take no prisoners" sense of entitlement with respect to the issue at hand. Boats, somehow, inexplicably, you managed to come out the other end with your sense of humanity intact. No easy feat. I applaud you for that.

Mick and Spark - to error is human, to forgive . . . DEVINE!

Best to both of you,

Wow, what a mess this thread is.

A sad mess.

I know little about Mick, and less about Strider Knives, but would like to share my experience with Mick.

A couple of months ago a was posting somewhere about serrating some knives I was making for some soldiers. I was looking for a system to do it myself.

Mick sent me a PM offering to do it for me for free.
These were my knives mind you, not his, and we had never met each other.

A few weeks later, it came out that I knew someone selling a grinder.
Mick wanted it, and asked me sight unseen to get it for him.

I went to his shop to get the knives serrated, but unfortunately Mick wasn't there.
There was however an envelope with Cash waiting for me.
You see, he didn't want me to be out of pocket on a machine for him.

We still hadn't met, but there he was, laying out a stack of $100's

A couple of days later, Josh was DELIVERING the serrated knives to me from Mick.
This guy I never met or dealt with just helped me out, and trusted me with a pretty substantial amount of cash.

The very day I got this wad of money, the tranny on my truck blew.
It was down for a month.
A whole month.

Never, not even once, did Mick sweat me about the cash, or the grinder.
He asked once, and when I explained, he said to just get it to him when I could.

5 weeks after all of this, I picked up his grinder.
On the way home, it rolled over in the truck and broke the friggen flat platen attachment right off of it.
Boy did I feel awful. I offered several options for repair/replacement.
I did not expect Micks reply.
"Don't worry about it brother."
He handled it better than most of us would I think.

When I finally delivered the grinder, I spent close to half a day in the shop.
Never was I made to feel like I was in the way.
On the contrary, Mick spent like an hour in the grind shop with me.
Showing me the serration system, and discussing techniques.

I got the grand tour of the place.
Any question I asked was answered, and elaborated upon.

I left the shop with more knowledge than I had when I got there, and a small sense of wonder at this industry I am becoming part of.
Theoretically, he and I are competing for dollars, yet he did not hesitate to open his shop for me.
He did not hesitate to work on my knives for me.
That deal would not have happened if the knives weren't serrated, and Mick offered to help me out.
To me, that spoke volumes.

Thanks Mick.

If the nicest man in the world lies, he is still lying. Kindness, good deeds, and a pleasing demeaner to not cover ongoing misdeeds. They might cover up past ones, but not if you keep doing them.

At some point, its going to be called out by someone who wont back down, wich seems to be the case here. This will all stop as soon as verifiable records accounting Micks service dates, regiments, and locations match up to what Mick is currently stateing.

You're not even banned over there.

m1

I was told the same thing when I was banned for posting here at bladeforums.
That's because whoever banned me, was too lazy to change my user title and my profile. (maybe they thought it's funny to fool banned persons)
If you can't load anything but the welcome page, you're banned. That's what one of the admins once told.
And I'm not posting this to continue a forum war.

One uses the most extreme eexamples to make points. However, there aemany folks out there who do not feel the way you ( and I for that matter) do about Ms. Fonda and defend her to the very end. Like I said before. I am now of the mindset that if Mr. Mick could just keep his mouth shut and continue making knives and doing his work in the community, it would best serve him, his company and the knife community in general. Some folks have claimed that this thread has given the knife community a black eye, but I disagree as far as any public perception goes. Only those within the knife community generally read and post on here. But if Mr. Strider continues with his behavior, it could reflect badly on the knife community as a whole if someone who doesn't like our little business/hobby decided to run with this story.

Lessons of Life

There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge
things too quickly.
So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at
a pear tree that was a great distance away.
The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in
summer, and the youngest son in the fall.
When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe
what they had seen.
The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted.
The second son said no it was covered with green buds and full of promise.
The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so
sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.
The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with
fruit, full of life and fulfillment.
The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they
had each seen but only one season in the tree's life.
He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season,
and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that
come from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons
are fulfilled.

If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the
beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your fall.

Moral of the Lesson
Don't let the pain of one season destroy the joy of the rest.
Don't judge life by one difficult season.
Persevere through the difficult patches knowing that
better times are sure to come some time
Aspire to Inspire Before You Expire!
Live Simply.
Love Generously.
Care Deeply.
Speak Kindly.
Leave the Rest to your Creator.
Happiness keeps You Sweet,
Trials keep You Strong,
Sorrows keep You Human,
Failures keep You Humble,
Success keeps You Glowing,
But Only the Creator keeps You Going!

I do not own a Strider, I do not know Mick on any level. I am in my 15th year on active duty and I have to tell you, I'm not concerned in the least about any claims he may or may not have made regarding his service. I understand some of you are more passionate about this than I am, but I'm curious what many of you base your knife purchases on. Is there one amongst you who has not made a mistake or error in judgment? Would you like said offense to be posted on a public forum as an attempt to destroy your livelihood? So many of you have feigned outrage over his military service claims, yet here is a guy who admittedly made some mistakes, paid his debt to society and has picked himself up and dusted himself off and made a better life for himself. From what I've read he makes one of the best production knives in the industry. If those of you who are bashing him place more weight into the people behind the product rather than the product then you have a lot of letters to start writing. Here's a few you can start with...

Anyone here own or ever owned a Ford, GM, Chrysler or any other American car? Have you investigated the backgrounds of the CEO's and engineer's and taken action against them for how hard they fucked you over for the past few decades? They knowingly had you pay $20 - $30K for an inferior product that falls apart in your hands...and your NOT pissed off about that? You get a pathetic three year warranty for something that has a four year life expectancy. After that if nickel and dimes you to the poorhouse. Not only did they screw the consumers, but they screwed their own employees and the cities they bailed out on. I think I would be a hell of a lot more pissed about a corporation that separated me from $25K for a shit product, than a knifemaker who I paid $500 to for a superior product, but that's just me.

How many of you plan on boycotting the NFL for their not allowing the Border Patrol to include an ad in the programs that spoke negatively about illiegal immigration to Superbowl patrons? Why, because of their league expansion with Mexico and the almighty dollar. Screw the taxpayers and all those who defend our borders (agents and military), so long as the NFL gets richer. Any of you boycotting big league sports for turning the other cheek on illegal drugs (steroids, coke etc) that allow members to lie and cheat? Pretty damn hard to stand by your convictions when your knocking back your thrid beer at a Superbowl party wearing your favorite team jersey or winning money at your fantasy league.

How many of you are looking to scalp Bank of America for allowing illegal immigrants to have credit cards and checking accounts? Ones that will inevitably go into default and take money out of the taxpayers (your) pocket.

Anyone here posting the backgrounds of your state representatives who are lying, stealing and cheating their way through office? Anyone here start a petition to get some of your congressmen or senator's removed from office? Or does a knife mean more to you than your liberties, tax money, our troops, and broken promises? For all you vets on this board, when's the last time you wrote a letter to your respective congressman who voted no for military pay raises or benefits? You care so much about wounded combat vets, when's the last time you volunteered your time at a local VA hospital just to spend an hour or two with an aging vet? Thump your chest all you want, but feiging outrage on the internet over one man's claims is not only hypocritical but cowardley and in poor taste.

Many of my points are off topic, but we get screwed everyday by big corporations and politicians, yet we live with it, we accept it and do nothing about it for the most part. Some of you have made some blanket statements here regarding military service, integrity, members of other forums etc. Those of you who have need to check yourself. Again, I don't own a Strider nor do I participate in any of his forums. But I came across this thread and it seemed to be a blatant attempt at someone trying to get their "pound of flesh" over something that should have been handled on a personal level rather than a public one.

Wonderuful post Ida.

And on that thought, and also after talking to Ranger H.T., I need to apologize for the Wikipedia post I put up regarding POWNetwork.org.

After going back and looking at it again, the "questionable" entry at the bottom of the document is NOT verified and NOT sourced. What that basically means is there are not any verified issues or speculations regarding the content on pownetwork.orgs site.

I went and made the VERY same kind of mistake that I've been so pissed off at others in here for doing, and for that I humbly apologize and I will be writing a letter of apology to the website today.

There WERE errors and misinformation on the posting however, that I pointed out to them, that made their posting look incongruous. Those errors were fixed and portions of the post were removed promptly yesterday.

The POWNetwork.org provides an invaluable service to the military community and the public in general with their efforts, and I thank them for doing what they do.

Spark, should I edit the original post with the Wikipedia entry? Or should I just add a link to this apology below the quote? Your call. As an admin I am sure there are ways you would "prefer" to have things done in here to make your life easier.

It certainly does speak volumes. And it's just another of a number of posts in this thread testifing about Mr. Strider's generosity and charity.

It's also points out what is very frustrating to me. It's like the marathon runner who collapses ten feet from the finish line. Mr. Strider has overcome so much adversity and accomplished so much, he has overcome great adversity and made himself a great success by his own efforts. So it is frustrating that he won't take those last steps and finish the race.

Can you point Mr. Strider out to your son and say, "There is a role model for you, son; a man who has beaten great obstacles and made great success for himself, a man who misrepresents his military service and lives his life as a continuous lie." If he would just take those last few steps and solve those last problems, then you could say, "Son, there is a great roll model for you."

He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season...

This is a great story and a great lesson.

But what if, in its beautiful and productive full fruit, the tree -- beautiful and fruitful as it is -- lies continuously about its past insisting that it was never in that poor state and that, in fact, it is was even more glorious?

Mr. Strider has accomplished so much and built such a good name for himself as a knife designer and maker, but he tarnishes it all when he insists on living in a perpetual web of lies. He has built such a good name for himself as a knife designer and maker, as a generous man, as a chairitable man, as a business man and a job creator, and as good citizen, he has achieved by his own efforts so much present glory that he just does not need the false glory of the fictitious past; in fact, it is a weight that pulls him down. It is frustrating to me that he won't let that go, won't take those last few steps and cross the finish line and achieve full fruition.

Michelle, do whatever your conscience tells you. I've been updating the original posts in this thread as I've had more information, good or bad.

What an utterly pointless thread.
Congratulations on getting attention by dragging someone's name through the dirt for no reason. Pathetic.

.....after reading most of this, all I can say is: wow. E-thuggery is alive and well, but there are some excellent pearls of wisdom you come across wading through the quagmire......

Its not really much different than some 14 year old girl trashing another person anonymously on her Myspace page.

yet you cant help yourself from posting truly, without any arguement whatsoever, pointless whiny posts. if this is so beneath you, waste not your time posting, no one cares what you think. seriously.

if you had actually read even the first page, youd see their was a reason.

i think it was a good reason. many others do. on both sides of this. thus, a point for this thread. you dont have to agree with it. but its there. cant deny that.

your posts, again, worthless.
