Midwest gathering???

I say if Ace can make it, we go ahead and reserve the group site at Loud Thunder.

Do ya'll want me to handle that?

That'd be great - let us know if anything is needed like a deposit or something...

Looks like

ace of blades
kgd
charlieridge
j williams
noshtero

We should recruit some more.....

Yeah - a few more names would help. Gotta be some folks in MI - what about hitting up Rupestris?

I pm'd him to draw his attention to the link

My cousin is coming (not a bladeforums member yet).

The ranger told me the group site can comfortably hold 10 tents, so 4 more people would be great.

As much as I want to make sure Ace can come, I'm thinking with the number that are available for the 8th, I go ahead and book the group shelter tomorrow either way.

Does that sound fair?

Also, are we looking for 1 night or 2? If it were up to me I'd head down on Friday and drink beer. If I wait until Saturday, I'm likely to not get there until mid-day.

Hey j, it may make more sense for you to reserve the site if you don't mind. I won't get there until late Friday night. When you get there mid-day on Friday, you'll need to check in to the group site. It would help if it was in your name.

Would you mind doing that? You'll need to send a check for $20 to the park to hold the reservation. Obviously we'll reemburse you when we get there.

If not that's ok, but if you want to, here's the info:

Park Ranger: Mike Murrin
Address: 19408 Loud Thunder Road
Illinois City IL 61259
Phone: (309) 795-1040

They are only there between noon and 1PM says the message I just listened to when I called them.

Im gonna do a little first aid class at this if anyones interested. What topics are you interested in seein covered?

Im thinking, hypo, and hyperthermia, joint imobilization, bleeding controll to include sucking neck and chest wounds, movement of injured persons, treating shock, and covering cpr, and maybe some diabetic emergency stuff. I will also bring my main jump bag to go through with you guys.....

Ok we're booked for the group site at Loud Thunder for the 8th, 9th, and 10th. They said all they do for the reservation is put a sign with my name on it up at the site. So it's like anyone can set up there and it's up to me to complain if you don't belong :)

So, just ask for the group site at the registration desk. The fee is $11 per tent per night. Firewood needs to be from Illinois due to Emerald Ash Borers, so I'll probably just purchase it there for $4.50 a bundle.

I can bring up one of them two burner propane colemans. I like my MSR whisper light better, but the coleman outcooks when there are multiple people. I don't mind sharing food and putting in time preparing some meals. I do have to buy groceries over stateside as customs siezes everything (even the booze :( ) when I cross. So that kind of limits me getting something exotic like bison. But I do plan to come well stocked on both calories and ethanol!

How are you guys on the spicy food factor?

hotter the better dude, I can bring up a bunch of hamburger, and maybe some steaks. I have a side of beef in my deep freeze.

Bring that coleman though. Im sure there are grills up there to BBQ with.
