Mnandi: My latest Obsession

Not I.
I've been buying purely off the exchange so far.
Some nice pieces on TNK tho.

J

Are you interested in a Box Elder with a plain blade? You saw and loved mine, and I'm ready to let it go to a new home if you'd like it.

franzdom, those macros are gorgeous. Can you get shots of the full blades?

Here are some full blade shots but I still prefer the closeups, it's always fun seeing things with the camera that you don't see with the naked eye :o

Here's the Dragon Skin version of Bertie's Damascus. I would love to learn how to shoot close ups like you franz, one day.

Dang it. I've been watching the exchange for an ebony mnandi for a while now and I go to eat dinner and I miss one for under $300.

I hear ya, I've missed some of my dream knives because of a bathroom break!

But this time, it's cool. My friend who got is has been hunting one.

I paid quite a bit more for this as opposed to that one that just sold, but I'm happy with it:

That's a beauty Dino, I love that stuff. My one and only knife with Bertie Rietveld damascus is a Terzuola Model 7 with snakeskin bolsters.

Did you know it's Bertie's birthday today? :)

Kind regards,

Jos

Bertie is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet in the business. I remember him explaining the locking system (for his folders to a couple of custom makers) and the passion for his work and his willingness to share was awesome to witness. Happy Birthday Bertie!!! Nice Terzoula Jos, you know he uses ball bearings to produce that Damascus.

Slowing approaching the 1 year anniversary of this thread. This thread is responsible for my front pocket lint, and my rear pocket being 1.5 ounces heavier. It's also responsible for some interesting conversations, and a few new friends. It's been a fun ride so far. Prior to this thread, I had owned 70% of the Spyderco's made, and 90% of the Benchmade made. I dibbled and dabbled in other brands as well (including William Henry). It wasn't until my first Mnandi (Snakewood), did I realize what the perfect office EDC was for me. After reading the first few post the end of January last year, I finally decided to pull the trigger. I will admit, parting with $400 for ONE knife seemed crazy to me at the time. Now, nearly a year later, $400 is an afterthought. My second knife which I WAY overpaid for was a Box Elder. From then on.... it's been a whirlwind. Someone wrote; "Mnandi's are like potato chips, you can't have just one". My goodness that statement was spot on.

I can honestly say there has only been one regret of a Mnandi I sold. It was a Lignum. I've tried replacing it several times but the others weren't the same. And, considering how many Mnandi's passed through my hands (not as many as Lisa, of course), that's not bad. In fact, that very Lignum, was one that Lisa owned as well. Maybe it's a piece that can never been "owned" by anyone :(

I normally don't post photos until I'm in the sales forum. However, I think it may be time to throw a current "state of the collection" shot up on the anniversary day.

Big_E, I think I bought that Lignum, sold it, bought it back and sold it again! Seriously!
I'd love to see a "state of the collection"! Do it!

I ended up keeping one Lignum, this one:

This thread is responsible for quite a few folks acquiring Mnandis.
Time between my first and my second? 48 hours
Second and third? 48 hours
Third and fourth? About 52 hours (I think I slept longer one of those days).
Now I just need to find the perfect BE.
After that one I have no idea what will come next.
But I do love picking up pieces with discontinued inlays or really beautiful Damascus work
