Mnandi: My latest Obsession

Yea! My very first Mnandi has been ordered and will be mailed today.

I'll surprise you, but a hint: NOT the ivory/damascus almost identical to Hoodep's (above), that I craved. A reliable owner, and the store-owner, said that for my purposes - EDC in Levi's and constantly fondling - the light creme ivory was not best. So I went with wood, which I can first wax and then fondle/EDC to my heart's desire. And damascus, naturally, 'cause that's how I roll.

As my first Mnandi it will never be traded or sold (yeah, I bet you've heard THAT before :)) Stay tuned. Should arrive by Thursday. Oh, the agony of the "wait". I'm glad I have a Valium script, otherwise would not make it another hour.

Thought I was done with 7. Then came number 8 and I figured an even number was a good place to stop. However .... number 9 arrived here today! I have been really liking the lighter Bocote grains and this one caught my eye.

Problem now is that I am back at an odd number .... we all know what that means!!! Now the search starts anew!

Just got the call from Angela today that my Lignum is ready to come home from the spa! It's so nice to hear from her! I'll have it back in hand by Friday at the latest!!!! :D

I may have to talk you out of that one, since I now have both a large and small LV Seb. :p

Congrats Locutus!
You are going to love your first Mnandi.
I know I do. And my second....
And my third....
And my fourth....

What is the deal with lignum that makes it so coveted? Looks or rarity or hardness? Just curious. I'm not knowledgeable on woods. I googled it but learned that it is dense. Maybe I am too.:)

Hint: the wood and I have something in common. We are both elderly.

Great clue! Think I have it figured out!

The lignum is popular for the few things you mentioned and also because of some of the grain patterns/green hues. I also think crk is doing away with it? Not positive, but I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Lignum is the heaviest (densest) wood in the world which makes it extremely tough and therefore great for knife handles. I myself prefer Desert Ironwood because it is almost as dense but prettier (to my eyes).

Lignum has a very cool greenish hue and of course, the different scales have different amounts of green. I'll take some pix when I get mine back!

From what you've said thus far, I've got it narrowed down to two - either box elder or lignum :).

Smart. I don't roll Lignum style, at least not yet. But I used to box a little, and relatively speaking, I'm an elder, so....a WINNER! By the way, it is due tomorrow. Needless to say, I'll be waiting by the front door all afternoon.

PS: Im in a humorous mood, so I'll go further and note that in the South, there are different kinds of cussing. The cleaner kind, like the "dang" or "heck" cuss, and the slightly more racy type, like the "damn ass" cuss.:)

My Burl Boxwood Elder w/Raindrop Damascus has arrived! I know, no pics so it doesn't exist. But the wife and I are going shopping at Best Buy for a better camera tomorrow, so pics will have to wait. I realize it is not an exotic or exclusive model, but it is my very first so you can't imagine my emotions right now.

Having a little trouble mastering the one hand opening as it is a little stiff, but that will give me more reason to play with it. Yea! Okay, bye for now. Thanks to all for the support along this journey.

Good for you on the Mnandi, Locutus. I know you've been hankering over one. Hope you didn't have to sell any of your William Henry's to get it, though.

Thanks, Maprik, that is exactly what I've been doing. Two hands. Plus a couple drops of Nano and it is already smoothing out. Franzdom made a good point to me separately, that damascus has texture and thus is slightly thicker that the smooth blades. I've heard that about DLC blades too. Anyway, time for several hours of playing with Mnandi. So no more lame humor for a while :)
