Mnandi: My latest Obsession

Thank you for your comment Fooj!
I recall admiring many of your Mnandi posted earlier in this thread.

My new (to me) mammoth.

The last three or four have been simply outstanding. I was just staring at the details on that sharktooth blade and oh boy ... it is hypnotizing!

It's interesting how I was keeping track on the mammoth/shark tooth and camel thorn knives on the bay and they end up here :o I don't know what else I should have expected ;)

Great scores guys, those two are real gems

Are those who bought a Mnandi Mammoth Ivory/Bark with damascus at the average price happy with their purchase or are they experiencing a tinge of buyer's remorse?

The reason I asked this question was to mine for any potential issues that would persuade me to avoid allocating funds towards something that wasn't absolutely perfect. The mammoth ivory inlays with damascus are pricey and therefore I want my money's worth. This thread has twisted my arm until I purchased an Mnandi I've had my eye on for a number of weeks. The fact that it was sitting there for a number of weeks does raise concern. How come none of the Kings or Queens in this thread didn't pick this one up? They would have saved me some money. :) :(

Critiques are welcomed (i.e. likes and dislikes).

I will post a few personal photos when it arrives.

That looks like a very nice piece of caramel mammoth to me. Most people seem to prefer cream or bark mammoth so that is probably why it sat for a while. There are no negatives comming from me about that one though, it's a nice knife. :)

.

Gorgeous piece, Usagee. Congratulations on a great acquisition! I love the caramel colored pieces like yours, with the subtle shade variations in them (among other things, it keep folks from thinking that the ivory is a plastic insert ). I also like the fact that their are no voids in the ivory. My EDC Mnandi is not as nice as yours, but of similar hue, and doesn't sport the way cool damascus blade. Even so, it gets a lot of ooohhhs and aaahhhs when I use it at the office.

I think one reason why yours sat for a while is simply because of the price point -- in the grand scheme of things, there are not that many folks on the planet that 1) know about and understand/appreciate CRKs, and 2) are willing to spend that kind of money on a knife in this economy. The other reason is . . . it was patiently waiting for you to make up your mind. :)

This is a nice peice as well. I remember seeing it earlier in the thread. The leather sheath molding itself around the Mnandi caught my interest.

The #2 reason signifies why I held off as long as I did, but it occurred to me how unique and rare each Mnandi mammoth damascus really is. This one sang to me and if I'd let it go I thought I'd ultimately regret it more than the cash. This is significant of the one Mnandi I've wanted for some time but will never have; Lisantica's amalgamed giraffe bone damascus. I've searched far and wide for anything close to no avail.(More pictures of this would be appreciated).

Stunning!

It can be a miserable weekend for those who pay for premium overnight shipping for Saturday delivery, miss the currier truck, and therefore delay said delivery for another 2 days. Yet it has arrived.

Latest addition to my small collection. I apologize upfront for the iPad quality photos.

Only one problem. I asked the retailer if the blade was absolutely perfect for which the clerk said yes. Unfortunately there was a small flaw, but thankfully it was a part that could be easily replaced. You can see 2 tool marks on the rear-side pivot in the original photos. I called CRK and they're sending a replacement screw/pivot immediately.

All in all a nice blade: 80% lockup.

Looks great! Glad you got the pivot taken care of. I understand wanting it to be perfect.

Now I have to ask you the same question you asked us! Any regret? Or perhaps you should enjoy it for a little while before you answer.
