This was my second try at doing some freehand filework, this time on my Opinel #6, using a round diamond needle file...

A Tidioute 73 slip joint rehandle by Muskrat Man and Gene Martin ground ATS 34 fixed blade hafted by myself. Both are Alaskan mammoth ivory; sheath is a 60's vintage from the old Warshal's store of Seattle, now long gone.

Kaleb's work is awesome, Barry. I like your fixed blade a lot as well. Nice stag, matches the Queen almost perfectly!

Thanks guys; I made the bone bowie up for a "cowboy style" knife. The bone on the bowie looks like the identical bone Queen used to use as far as I can tell. It came from Jantz Supply as well. I used to have a Queen Mountain Man (traded long ago) that had the same bone, and the biggest clue was the fact that both knives had the characteristic "double D" in the jigging (visible on the butt of the knife in question). Beautiful bone stag IMO, in both color and jigging.

This is a Falkniven F-1 I bought un-scaled with no sheath. I hafted it in tiger maple that I found in a local wood craft supply and had stabilzed. The sheath is from a Schrade offering you may recognize. (I hope, 'cause I can't recall the model).

Looks like a D'holder style sheath. I don't know the Schrade model though.
I've got a knife made by the man, that has a very similar sheath.

Didn't D'Holder have some collaborations with Schrade?

D'Holder is the model Schrade I was trying to remember. Thanks fellas! It fits the knife perfectly.

Schrade did a few collaborations with D. I don't know which one came with that particular sheath.

First, I wanted to say hi. I've been lurking for several weeks after I randomly stumbled upon this forum looking for an online GEC dealer. So far I've seen some gorgeous knives and interesting threads. I personally have a small collection of traditional knives, mostly Case and SAKs, but have recently purchased several GEC #15 boys knives, which brings me to my request and point of this thread.

I love the #15 pattern, simple and the perfect size to carry, but the two examples I have with spear main blades are almost completely obstructed by the secondary blade which makes them difficult to open. My clip blade versions don't suffer from this.

To solve the problem I decided to attempt to turn one into an easy open jack knife. I used a dremel to cut a thumb sized indent in the frame just ahead of the bottom bolster. It worked well and the knife has now become part of my daily rotation. I need to find something to dye the edges of the bone scales that are now exposed that weren't before, but I'm happy with the result. It looks like some of the old easy open jacks of the 40s and 50s.

I've also taken a file to a case shield on a Texas jack that sat proud of the bone jigging and was rubbing my thumb raw (I tend to use my pocketknives as worry stones in my pocket). After polishing the shield, the case writing was completely removed and I'm left with a simple, flat oval shield.

Have anyone of you done anything similar? Rescaled a knife, reprofiled a blade, hacked a jack knife up like me? Lets see those pictures.

Thanks,
Over/under

My only mod to date is a dye job I did to make a Case Medium Jack in Sunset Winterbottom Bone look more like a knife and less like a circus tent.

Nice job :)

What type of dye did you use?
