Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Here's a couple I just finished. The first one, I was sent 2 Western fish knives with the wish that I make one knife out of the best parts. Before and after...

The other is a mod on a Camillus 72. The bone is amber richmond.

Glenn, How do you attach the pins? I have a couple I wouldn't mind trying. Do you leave the pins in the liners? New pins or the existing ones?
Al vet, stunning soddie.

Last year I modified the spey blade on this #73 Jack into a drop point, but was never completely happy with it, although the burnt arrowhead bone is one of my GEC favorites. Today I refined the drop point, making it a little slimmer, and reground the pen into a "copecliffe" hybrid straight-edge. Satisfied with the results, I then gave it a hot vinegar dip and resharpened the edges. Project done at last!

great works on the last pages, very interesting to see a pro @ work. i see i've a lot to learn, just killed another two ebony scales in the attempt to pin them to to liners :D patience, young apprentice...

A few days ago, a fellow member asked me for some pictures of my modified #66 jack. I assume these pictures might belong here

That still working out for you, Fausto?

gorgeous knife Fausto. Its amazing how much difference taking the pen blade off made. It looks much sleeker and like a great everyday knife.

Here are some Keen Kutter Barlows that I am going to work on when I get more time. I made the anvil myself. Glenn...PM me if you are in need of an anvil like this (for free ;)

I had to look at your photobucket account to see the steady rest, but I'm glad I did! Very nice! Here's my setup. It's not a knife, but it is a tool I use to work on them.

The vise can rotate completely a full 90+ degrees and the whole thing weighs like 30 lbs. The steel plate is 8" ish square and an inch thick. Those little anvils bounce ball bearings like crazy!

This one started life as a Kutmaster hawkbill three blade.

I chucked the screwdriver, ground the hawkbill into a giant sheepsfoot, added a slight swedge to the spear and covered it in green and gold acrylic.

Love that work station Brian, that would be perfect for my apartment.

Added the EO groove and turned the pen into a coping blade, was going to locate the EO in the same place as my 2011 Forum knife but I have a vintage four line Camillus that has the EO butt up to the rear bolster that I really like, so I placed the EO there.

Great mod, Paul. Changes the whole knife for the better, doesn't it?

Thanks Glenn, a compliment from you inspires me to attempt more involved projects:thumbup:

You're correct in saying it changes the knife for the better. For me an EO or pinchable blade is a major factor as both hands suffer past injuries along with current issues...arthritis and Carpal tunnel. I marked the EO location more than once...held both the 2011 Forum knife and the old Camillus EO before FINALLY going for it. I went slow with a dremel and abrasive wheel then finished with high grit wet/dry sandpaper.

It's people like you that inspire me to make these mods:thumbup:
