Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Yes and I am very excited - great work Mark - an ole Catt resurrected from the dead !!!:eek::eek::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::D

Take it easy on me with your photography skills  I'm scared now!:barf::eek::barf: You should Primble-ize it before you take pictures.....okay?:confused::foot:

Hi, Perry. I bought it and did for my friend Primble. He has been very generous to me and besides he loves old Catt's.

This Catt will make me a dozen Catts - lots of kin to keep the ole knife company! I need to find more magnets - they have disappeared around here - I can't imagine where they could have gone.

It looks pre-Primble-ized to me - but - I will use my worst lens Mark - OK :confused::D - maybe I could wobble the camera around a bit too. ;):D:D:D:eek::barf:

Here is my latest mod. It is an old Colonial that had nasty hollow scales on it. I took it apart and soldered on some solid bolsters, and scaled it in osage orange. This is also my first try at fluting the bolster. I finally figured out how to get the pivot pin to be perfectly flush. You need to ream the hole a bit, then peen it fairly wide, and then really pound it in and peen it some more once it is flush. The rest is sanding and polishing. I keep learning something new with each mod.

Great work dma1965! You are a true craftsman Colonial knives are some of my favorite and you did a awesome job making this one WAY better!

Nice revival, Mark!!

Dma, another one knocked out of the park!! Very well done!

Here's a fun little project I tossed together. Joe58 sent me a Robeson with broken blades to have fun with, so I decided to modify the main blade off of a 54 I took apart months ago and never did anything with. I had to modify the tang to match the spring and frame, and I had to regrind the blade to be about a quarter inch shorter so it would fit in the frame. The blades were broken, but, as you can see, the old Robeson bone scales were in great condition. I'm gonna be carrying this one around for a while.

Thanks Jonny D. What I really like about the Colonial and Imperial knives is that they are made from great steel and have very thin grinds, so they take a wicked edge.

Great work Evan! I love that old Robeson bone and that looks pristine.

I just won a lot of old blades off of eBay, and have a small pile of springs and liners, so I am going to be doing something similar. It seems simple as long as the spring and blade is of equal thickness.

DMA, great mod on that barlow

Evan, that thing looks sick! Really nice mod there.

Great save, Evan! You were able to rescue some beautiful handles that otherwise would've been simply discarded.
Perry

Decided to tear down this Case slimline, mostly because I wanted to make a pattern out of it to try making my own with slight mods. While I had it apart though, I decided the brown composite had to go.

Torn down about as clean as I have ever accomplished, not a scratch on it. Even managed to pry the shield out cleanly (one nice benefit to Case no longer pinning shields!) ...

Once my pattern work was done, time to reassemble.
Rough cut and glued up a set of Blue G10 scales ...

Rough profiled and milled out a slot for the shield best I could ...

Glued and pinned, ready for reassembly ...

Pins in, then trimmed ...

Peened ...

Final profiling ...

Still in need of lots of final sanding and polishing, but otherwise ready to go back in the pocket!

Outstanding work, Evan. Good job finding new life for those beautiful scales.
