Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Here's one I did for John of JK Knives. Great old Camco barlow with honest use on it. I didn't do much more than put some new covers on and clean it out inside. The amber stag was especially craggy on the mark side.

Here was an interesting one. Someone contracted me to make this knife from a Camillus 23 for a Ford Thunderbird fan, and we decided on this cool pin to use as a shield.

Rehandled in cocobolo.

Okay, this is my first attempt at taking apart, and putting a knife together.

I had this little stockman. It's marked Sword & Shield. Solingen Germany.

When I was cleaning it, a backspring broke. I figured I'd take it apart, and make it into a single blade. How hard could it be? In my defense, it was pretty wombly-jawed to begin with.

I managed to take it apart without breaking anything too badly

Then I pinned it back together

I guess it needs some more cleaning up, and you can see in this picture just how cock-eyed everything is

The funny thing is that even though it's all twisted and gappy, it snaps open and closed nicely, and has no blade wobble! :D
So I am both proud and embarrassed of my first take-apart mod.

That's great for your first try. I won't show you mine, I don't even remember what it was, but I'm pretty sure yours came out better.

It is a great feeling to make something usable out of something broken.

Nice job!

Nice work Vita! You too r8shell. Keep practicing and it all gets better really fast. It makes you feel proud to carry a knife you built (or re-built), doesn't it?

Here is my latest TL-29. I ground the screwdriver into the longest Wharncliffe I could, and rehandled it in some really nicely figured desert ironwood. This is my 15th or so mod, and I learn more and more with each mod. I think the Camillus TL-29s are the best for modding because they are built like tanks and leave lots of room for error. Plus they used great steel.

It is great to see your posts. You and Esnyx have really inspired me and I am striving to get to where you both are. I really love seeing your work. Just watching both of you has taught me a lot. Also, Tony and Reese Bose have some great videos on YouTube.

Nothing to be ashamed of there, r8shell! I'm sure mine would be much much worse!

Thanks, guys. It is nice to at least be able to fix a thing. Then I can work my way up to making something beautiful. Speaking of, dma1965, that tl-29 mod is beautiful!

Rachel, you did a great job on that knife!

My first attempt ended in the garbage can, I broke the bone handles during dis-assembly. :barf: It was a $100.00 old Winchester :barf::confused::D

Thanks. I know if these covers were bone, rather than plastic, I'd have broken them.

Esynx modded Case delrin 99, now sportin' amber bone stag covers and gimp shield:

Boy that is a stunner, Barry! Completely turned that knife from plain Jane to knife collector's dream come true!
