Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Looking good, Evan! The tip bolsters are awesome.

Evan, as a hobby woodworker, I'm intrigued with your finishing treatment. The "flecks" make it look like a piece of quarter sawn. The soft wood grains taking on a dark-blue gray with the hard grain of the wood keeping a caramel tone. Very interesting to me. I've tried many different finishing products on oak lumber that I fell, took to the mill, and dried myself before working. I've never seen that. Closest I've come is with a "flamed" technique, but those colors didn't come out. Great work.

Awesome mod, Evan! Very cool!

Very cool, Evan. I'm a big fan of tip bolsters on a little whittler like that. I've never seen oak look anything like that. Great job.

Thanks guys! It's some really unique looking stuff. I actually didn't make it, I snagged it from a burl dealer here on BF. Looked way too cool to pass up!

Wow! That wood is fantastic! And the tip bolsters... VERY nice Evan! Derrick should be thrilled with the way that turned out!

Hey guys, I've yet to take apart a traditional folder, just afraid I'd be left with a bunch of parts and no knife...but I have done some updates to a fixed blade or two in my time.

My avatar is a damascus hunter that I handled with what was called gold-dust bone, I added red fiber liners, and double thorn filework to the spine, here's a closer view of that knife.

This is the last one I did for a local Cancer benefit in my home town, did a flat grind on the blade & arrowhead filework on the spine

I basically do these for fun or gifts as I never know when I'll have the time or energy to do them...Cancer sucks ass my friends, :) and I've got the scars to prove it.

Hope you enjoy looking at them half as much as I did when I was working on them.

Good stuff, Evan! That dyed wood is crazy, can't wait to see what you do with the rest of it!

Fish Bone Barlow WIP pictures

Blades and springs profiled. I will cut the long pull and stamp the tang then send to heat treat. Fish Bone stamp done and ready for heat treat. Liners profiled and drilled.
I will start making bolsters Monday and stamp them when the stamp comes back from heat treat.

Prototype bone handles that I have carved and dyed. I have a few more ideas that I will be working on for the bone handles.

What do you guys think?

Those all look great Mark!!!:D I can't wait to see the finished product:):):)
On the handle scales, I loke 9 o clock the best. Then 12 o clock would be my second choice. It'll be cool no matter which you choose to go with tho:D:D:D:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Looks awesome Mark. I also like the set of scales in the far left. What kind of steel are you using?

They're really coming along nice Mark. Can't wait to see the final results.:thumbup::thumbup:

So cool!

If we're taking a poll, I like the top scales the best. Could be the coloring, but they look the most like a fish skeleton. Fossil-like, even.

Very nice Mark! Curious to know whether the inspiration for this knife was drawn from another knife you'd seen before, or is this completely from your creative imagination? Can't wait to see the finished product!!

Mark, very very Nice! Bolster stamp = awesome, fish scales on the right of your photo = awesome. Now where's that signup sheet again??:D
