Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Today I am carrying a #99 Farm & Field lockback in O1 which I tried the Ghost Orange G10 trick on (orange g10 liner under clear/ghost tanslucent g10), along with green canvas bolsters.
Came out pretty well but I think maybe next try I need to achieve a higher level of finish on the interfacing surfaces of the g10 before gluing. I've seen others get more defined orange color shining through. But then again, I always like to rough up those interfaces a little for more epoxy grab. So I'm not sure what to do. Any tips or ideas from someone who has done this?

I really like the EO mod (only on certain knives though), mainly the ones I use everyday.
Here are some that I have done..

That looks fantastic, ALLHSS! :thumbup::thumbup:
I saw your knife in another thread (maybe "what trad. are you totin' today?"; been busy at work so there's kind of a backlog of posts I'm trying to catch up on and I'm not reading things in chronological order, so it's all kinda weird :o) and wondered if I'd ever seen that mod before. I'm glad I found this post instead of posting a question in that other thread.
But anyway, I think it looks very cool! :cool::cool:
I think I'm one of those people who likes EO notches in sleeveboardish knives regardless of what blade shapes a knife has.

jlhoffman, your EO mods also look pure professional! :thumbup::thumbup: (I love that top picture.)

I've made "easy openers" out of all my Opinels. It makes them much easier to open :-)

Did a little modding for a fellow member today on a #56 Dogleg.

I did a quick little touch up on one of my own. The unground pivot pins on the #15 Electrician always annoyed me for some reason. So I took matters into my own hands. Turned this (on left);

Into this;

Thanks fellas. I opted not to polish the bolsters, but finished them off with fine Scotch Brite to keep a satin finish.

Question: I just EO modded my new 77 tan sawcut barlow, I noticed a small amount of oil came out of the covers when I used the dremel. What can I put on the covers to help restore or replenish the bone.
Linseed Oil, mineral oil, gun oil, ren wax, or anything else?

It's good to see this thread is still going!! :)

If I recall correctly, Mr. Bose recommended Formby's lemon oil in another discussion.

Many here know how strong the pull is on the Northwoods Forest Jacks. Real nail breakers if ever there was one. I did this for fellow forum member EyeDog aka; Mike Bayer. Forest Jack in Mammoth Ivory. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to pinch it open with two fingers.

Nicely done, Bob! One bit of advice, Make sure to rub a little elmers glue on the freshly exposed mammoth ivory. It will prevent it from shrinking/warping. I usually wipe it on, let it sit for a minute, then wipe off the excess. Works wonders.

Beautiful knives to begin with, and, IMHO, your EO mod makes it even better, both functionally and aesthetically, Bob! :cool::cool:
I'll bet Mike's gonna LOVE it! :D:thumbup:

I had concerns as the whether the EO mod would actually do any good due to the very strong back spring on these knives. Mike and I talked on th ephone regarding those concerns and he told me he was okay with giving it a shot. One of my concerns is that the Mammouth Ivory is so nice, I didn't want Mike having regrets afterward if it didn't make a difference with the pull. I was really surprised at how much easier it was after completion to just pinch it with thumb and index finger to open.
I hope Mike will be equally pleased.
