Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

Today I am carrying a #99 Farm & Field lockback in O1 which I tried the Ghost Orange G10 trick on (orange g10 liner under clear/ghost tanslucent g10), along with green canvas bolsters.
Came out pretty well but I think maybe next try I need to achieve a higher level of finish on the interfacing surfaces of the g10 before gluing. I've seen others get more defined orange color shining through. But then again, I always like to rough up those interfaces a little for more epoxy grab. So I'm not sure what to do. Any tips or ideas from someone who has done this?

This is pretty slick. Would like to see more pics of this one.

My still new Mora #2; it looks ever better now that the patina is coming in. That 112 looks fantastic!

Buck 442

Gave it some ss frames, blue liners, natural g10 bolsters and bocote pants.

Thanks. They say you can swap these 442 blades into a 112 if you'd prefer a drop over a clip, but I like my 112s too much to tear into them. Maybe if I come across a good deal on one in need of refurb.

That Buck mod is a dandy, 311! Very neat choice of materials. Impressive.

Long weekend project. Had it in my head for a while now that I need a nice watch pocket size single blade sunfish.
Started with one of these...

And came up with this.

Think I'll call it a "Smooth Rider" since I can't detect any of that rough rider-ness it came with. Really slicey now with the high thin regrind, and really light minus the second blade/spring and after swapping 4 nickel bolsters out in favor of canvas.

Wow, 311, totally different and unique mod, great work! I would imagine that got a lot lighter, as you mentioned.

Very impressive transformation of that sunfish, 3-1-1!!:thumbup::thumbup:

Did a thread a while back on this mod in the Buck forum...
It's a Pocket Melt, re-blade, and re-scale on a 112...

Tools used were a 3/8" Dewalt drill with a home made plywood sanding disk, and drums...Different grits of sandpaper, and a 6" grinder with buffing wheel...

I am really enjoying looking at everyone's work. Some really awesome professional and amateur work here.

Can someone please post or PM a link to a good step-by-step DIY for rehandling a slipjoint traditional. I have one that needs some work and want to try it out. Photos are always helpful as well. I have not gone through this entire thread yet, but if someone knows of a good one for a tutorial, or work in progress, I would be most interested to take a look. Unfortunately the one above has all the photos removed.

You guys are an inspiration! Now it's off to bribe...er... visit my buddy at the machine shop with the plans for a stiddy. Just when you thought you couldn't fall any further down the rabbit hole........

Stunning work gentlemen! Ive made a few knives using minimal tools and greatly admire your work!

Some beautiful mods and some tremendous talent displayed here. I am impressed! Having seven knives modded by Glennbadd right now and can't wait to get them back.

Here is Rust Red NF77 Barlow, loved the TC rust red, finally got brave enough to do it. It turned out great!
Started with Tan/yellow Sawcut 77 Barlow, put in an EO notch with dremel.
Pics don't do it justice, it looks brown in pics but its actually a orange/rusty red.
Used Scarlet liquid RIT dye, filled a pan with water until it covered knife, put in a little dish soap.
Next, poured in 1.5 ozs. of dye, and brought to a hot simmer not boiling (didn't want to damage knife) for 7-8 minutes.
Washed off, cleaned and scrubbed with warm water several times. Oiled the bone and joints, then some ren wax. Looks awesome!

I agree, looks fantastic Jeff! I hope you find the tan/yellow clip point to do the same treatment to as well. I can see how vibrant that orange/rust red is in the second photo.
