Modified Production Knives (traditional only)

r8shell is over here making old broken bone look new again and Im over here making new bone broken and old looking LOL

2nd Camillus mod finished up. Was actually the first one I started and took back apart due to some issues. I debated on tossing it but needed the practice to get the process right for a couple knives I wanna do down the road. I got the old bone off the liners, straightened them best I could and went looking for a spring that would fit the blade better. I had the bone glued and pinned perfectly, had the spring in and the spring pins peened nice and snug with no issues and then I was tapping the bolter/hinge pin in and it went sideways between the blade and the bottom liner before I realized it which made for some obvious bone damage. Shook my head, swore at it and then decided to carry on. I love the look of old oiled bone and this was always destined to be a user so some cracks just add to the "antique" look. I refined my technique for setting that pin after that and will never have that issue again. I forced a patina on the blade and the spring to add to the old/weathered look and I even polished the bolsters despite the fact that Ill never be able to hide the pins.

With the other learner. I like the clip blade shape on the micarta knife but I got the long pull straighter on the bone blade lol. Combine my knowledge and I will get it right eventually!!!

birdvis is cranking out some amazing TL-29's and Im over here polishing turds...but they are starting to shine!!! :D

Nice job on that long pull 66sprint6! That clip looks great! You must have done some serious work on that spring to make it manageable with that shorter geometry. I'm going to have to give it a try!

I did some work on the blade itself, the angle that takes it from closed to half stop and then spend quite some time opening and closing it to try and smooth it out and break it in. They both have a somewhat strong pull to open BUT both can be pinched open as well. Im gonna keep trying to get the perfect clip setup but I have a couple in the works that I will be leaving the blades alone as well. Keep posting your creations, again, they are part of what keeps me going with mine! Eventually I will have the skill and know-how to make exactly what I want and then I can move on to experimenting and doing different handle materials like yours!

Those look great! I too love a good clip blade. Did one the other day, but had a lot of trouble with the pull. Problem was I just rushed it and it looks like crap. What tool do you use? I used a diamond dremel bit first then cleaned it up with the smallest stone wheel I have. Need advice!

Almost done with this 29. Still needs an easy open notch. Carbon steel blade will take a nice patina.

Just saw your reply! Ive been experimenting. I start with a dremel wheel then use a small flat file to make the rest of the work. Its slow and tedious but is more controllable. I still need to get it dialed in. I ruined another blade tonight tryin to get the clip right. I realized my mistake and have adjust accordingly. Im gonna use that blade to practice my long pull and try to get the process down a little cleaner.

I hear ya, Matt. That was my first try. Already been shopping for some more "practice " knives.

Keep at it. The clip and handle looks awesome, thin up the pull on the next try. Practice on some spare metal if you can as well. I really want to get it right soon!

That...is gorgeous. I love the cream handles so very very much.

All this talk about cutting/grinding/filing long pulls effected my dreams last night. Alas, those dreams were of me continuing the be unsuccessful at them LOL

Not as fancy as some of the work up above, but this came out of the shop with me a couple days ago. Simply bobbed the second blade on my Case Muskrat to a wharny/sheepsfoot.

Been trying to find any knife setup this way from the factory for a couple years now, to no avail. Bought the 'Rat for this purpose a couple months ago, then liked it as is and didn't do it, but wasn't carrying it... meh, why not? :)
