gunsnob is my hero, i'm thinking of sending more business his way. the hawks i've moded were all similar in design and give out as gifts to this point. i wanna try some different stuff and maybe get some sheath designs that are original turned into reality.

+ 1 there, brother.

bro 'snob's work sets the standard for sure....

Your hawk is looking really good Branson. The flared edge is a nice touch but I never would have noticed it on my own.

Maybe my picture is not that good. I will take another next to one that isn't and it's quite noticeable.

Hi there,
After blueing the hawk head, how does it hold up to rust?

I'm thinking of stripping the paint off mine but have held back after reading how quickly rust sets in.

Well thanks to Unsub I have started on the hawk mods. So far I have stripped the paint, ground and sanded it smooth, reprofiled it and blued it.
I am going to do some leather work on the handle and if it works out, rawhide for overstrike protection.
Oh yeah and sharpen it...:p

Here is a new hawk I really only changed color from last hawk, I just like this mod so much I havent gone in a different direction yet.

and heres a work in progress, extremely difficult because I've never worked with kydex and because its my belief most of this has to be hand formed

brother - consider making a tracing of the crown of the stick on some Kydex, and drape it over and pull it down over the hawk head.

then you could dremel away the part you wouldn't want.

it should make a simple way to carry inverted, especially.

good work, keep pumpin'...!

admiring,

vec

thanks for the advice vec and i may do that for one, but on this one the best way to do my sheath would be a vacuum chamber. that being said i will divulge no more until this project is complete. its top secret and once its on the web it will spread like a disease :p

i tottally forgot about that first hawk and still want one bad. your sheath may have helped me but it wasnt intentional and i'm still working out a prototype.

No biggie. I wasn't try to imply anything.

I was at Sears the other day and seen a shingling hatchet and it reminded me of one of my designs. So on some level I took what works for me.

The original design for the tomahawk sheath was a take-off from a hammer holder for a belt loop. So I took that concept also.

I used the kydex press from knifeworks to form mine. If you need any pointers let me know. I'd be happy to help.

My design is OK for quickly drawing out the hawk but as you can see not that good for retention. I am mulling that over now.

I guess it just depends on what you going to do.

I guess what I am saying is that there really are no truly original ideas; just improvements on the old ones.

But that's what it's all about.

Looking good.
