Mod'ing The CS Trail Hawk

OK, the Trail Hawk speaks a lot more to me now that I fancied it up better.

Just did some more work to my Norse Hawk...

Just burned some stripes into the handle, and reshaped the screwhole to a diamond-shaped form. I'm probably gonna fill it with pewter, when I have the time. I also did some filework to the head and to the handle, that was my first try at this. Didn't turn out too bad, IMO.
 
Got two finished up today. No major mods compared to some in this thread, but a good relaxing diversion.

Nice! A spartan axe with Molon labe on it. I actually got to go to hells gate thermoplyea 2 yrs ago. It's like greece's version of the Alamo. All that stands there is a wall and huge statue of King Leonidas to commemorate the battle. The Greek army has that as their motto.

I kid, I kid. However, after 99 pages of reading, and 2 days of working, I'm proud to show off my Trail Hawk. We've all seen the befores by now, so I skipped that part:

That's a CS Norse Hawk. My favorite so far - I just wish it had a hammerpoll on the back... It really sucks at splitting (but that's not what tomahawks are made for anyways), but it's really good at chopping and other uses where it can work quite well as a knife substitute. As you can see from the pictures, it's got a rather thin blade.
 
i like the gun blue. holds up decent. easy to "fix" when it does get scratchy=just a quick touch up. clean with alcohol/degreaser, reblue, rinse, steel wool, oil. also like the look of these if you grind/polish them to smooth finish before coating.i never applied that parkarized stuff but i have an old skachet that has it. seems tough/durable. lol@the paint thinner hands.. stuff burns quick , huh. you get into doing a few of these, might even look into putting file patterns across the top/spine of blade (or wherever u like). i dont tape the hammer head before coating. i just coat everything and then go back with a file and clean up the hammer face to a smooth shine.
 
Let me state first off I am not a photographer and these pics do not do this hawk justice. Had issues with this one the entire process.
Think we all know what the spike hawk looks like. This is what I saw in one and all done by hand files / sandpaper, Cold blueing, lots and lots of elbow greese....

The handle is an old 22" handle that had split when I nailed on the butt plate. Cut 6" off to make it a total of 16" in length and butt plates were made rough on purpose.
The head had been taken to a polished surface, went away for the weekend and it got soaked in water while gone (accidentally). Did not take long to get pitted by rust, fine sanding and cold blueing later there are still pits that I don't like in it.
Plan on redoing the top and butt plates till they are smooth and shinny then redoing the leather piece.
Currently working on a dangle full sheath for her.

Tried a stain of coffee, teriyaki sauce and red wine vinegar. Didn't turn out as I hoped.. I may have saturated the wood a little too. I was brushing it on saran wrap and it turned into a little pool. I don't think the haft is completely dry yet, explaining why the head seats lower still..

Can saturating the wood in liquid ruin the structural integrity of it?
