MOP Handles

I wanted to keep this Pearl thread going...:) Here's a Schatt & Morgan Harness Jack in Pearl....

Sunburst

I have a pretty old MOP small english jack. I'd say its about 80 years old, but I got it about 10 years ago. The blades are in good shape, but the scales show the knife has been carried a lot. The surface of the pearl is covered with small scratches from pocket carry, just like a steel scaled knife would get. The surface almost looks like frosted glass. There are two cracks and a missing piece on one side from being dropped, however I stabilized it with epoxy and carry it. So if you pocket carry MOP for a long time, the finish will degrade and don't drop it.

This Mike Alsdorf Dr. knife, with a spearpoint blade,is the only MOP knife I have. The MOP is inlaid, this is a hard picture to take in your back yard.
Thanks Again Durwood.

Wake up sleepy-thread...I have another knife to post :D

This is a dandy little '73 Case 8261 pen knife with tip bolsters and sweet MOP

additional points about this knife....the pivot pins are peined thru the MoP handles and the center pin is hidden.

Kerry,

Classy little pen knife. Interesting secondary blade with the re-curve.

Yessir..and this little guy hasn't been sharpened or used. Ken..I believe that blade is called a surgical pen.

As usual my pal Smiling-Knife comes up with quite a grand thread!.

Hey there everyone, Great Mother of Pearls!. Here are a few of me vintage Fight'n Roosters..

I've never seen a Congress done so beautifully. That is amazing.

Thanks for showing this one Kerry.

And whats also interesting from a makers standpoint is , lets use MOP AND tip bolsters and now we have to hammer on pivot pins! Ups the stress factor.

Ken

Kerry are you sure that's a 77 year model ? It looks to be a XX after 1948 but before 1965. The surgical blade is rare.... A really nice knife......

Glad to see this thread revived. Great mop guys. That Case surgical blade is very unusal. Thanks.

Some of my previous pics are gone and there are a number for me to add.

Groovy German-Made US Knife co circa 1905

Checkered smoker's knife circa 1890. There was a pipe tamper on a swivel at the left end; sadly It is missing. Note the cigar fork.

Sunnyd's favourite... earlier pics missing. Victorian (c1880s) Smoker's knife made by Christopher Johnson. It has a fold-out pipe tamper and cigar cutter.

See post 109....I added a closeup of the tang and realized that I dated it wrong. I think this is a '73 not a '77

Ain't that the truth! AND the center pin is hidden!!!

Thanks Kerry for the close up.. It is a nice knife, XX USA dotted or XX down, doesn't matter.....

You're welcome of course. I agree that it is unusual and looks older than it's mark indicates, due to the surgical pen and the other noted characteristics.

Ken Erickson - this one is in my pocket today. (sans purse)
