Mora Sweden

Heard back from Mora! I had asked for info on three recent Moras in my collection.

Here's what they sent me....my Ref pic and their ID.

This is the KJE No 1710. The knife previously had a neutral brown leather sheath, but eventionally inherited the sheath from KJE No 1700 which probably was the only knife model kept from the FM Mattsson assortment (FMM No 650).
We bought the already closed down knife manufacturing from FM Mattsson in 1962. They produced knives between 1917-1961. Your sample was probably produced sometime between 1990-2005.

Now, that's an Answer! :D

Your Mora collection is real cool and I enjoyed the reading + the pic's.

Regards
Mikael

Thank you Mikael! It was a very complete answer! It's funny, that KJE catalog page also has a KJE 1701 which will be arriving here today!

The "Swedish Trapper" is a copy of what was originally a Jos. Rodgers pattern and then later also copied by Anton Wingen Jr.
This is the first that i have seen this Swedish version. There is also a vintage Abercrombie & Fitch version which i believe was made for them by Jos. Rodgers.

Very cool connection KJ. Would love to see some pics or ads of the others!!

I'm hoping an older Krång-Johan Eriksson Mora equivalent to the current MoraKniv Model 39 Scout arrives here on Saturday.

Just saw your vistor message. Thanks for the link.

Now that is type of response that just makes you even more greatful.

Awesome info.

Thanks Brett!

Got a couple more Moras in today.

KJ Eriksson 1701 (shown above in the 2000 catalog page) as made for Jonsered. Blade and box are labeled "Jonsered Turbo" so perhaps this was a promotional gift supplied with a Jonsered Chainsaw purchase (with their patented "Turbo" intake system). The box also bears the KJE trademark. It has a 5.5 inch blade and a sculpted grip that has to felt to be believed...fits the hand perfectly. The sheath is embossed with the Swedish Heraldic Lion bearing a sword.

The smaller knife is a Carl Andersson sheath knife with a wide 4.5 inch blade and steel buttcap. It has the old MO(CA)RA blade stamp.

I had posted these other places over here but completely forgot to include them here in the ref thread....I'm losing it.

Got some "Mini" Moras in......

Carl Andersson Scout knife and a KJ Eriksson with a Burl handle. The C Andersson has a 3 1/2" blade and the little KJ Eriksson comes in at 2 1/2". Smallest in my collection.

"Broderna-Jonsson Mora" is this from a different manufacturer than the Ericksson ? I'm confused about which Swedish knife manufacturer made which of these knives you have posted, so i need some help please.
thanks, kj

That is the manufacturer is stamped on the blade...most are out of business now. There were many manufacturers of Moras in the past...all working cooperatively and harmoniously together. Erik Frost, Broderna Jonsson, KJ Eriksson, FM Mattsson and Carl Andersson were just a few that made traditional Mora knives. They all looked basically the same sticking to the traditional patterns. The last two were KJ Eriksson and Erik Frost and they merged into Morakniv several years ago. Most of mine are older like 40's-90's plus some 2000's.

SAK, you must have quite a collection judging from your posts in this thread. You have sorely tempted me to buy another Mora, either one of the classic red handled #2's or the plain handled #2 with the laminated blade. The last thing I need is another knife though. Sigh.

My newest....

A Broderna-Jonsson Mora

I used to have one of those, the person selling it spelled it wrong and it went under the radar. I don't see them often and never in that condition, really great looking Broderna-Jonsson SAK Guy. You have a great collection of Mora's.

Thank you Brian and Dave!!! The Moras are one part of my collection that I have really enjoyed building!!! :)
