More #71 with micarta!

You guys overseas, if you need a US proxy I'd be willing to ship them to you if you have them sent to me. I'd love to help a fellow soddie lover out. Hit me up if you need the favor! Trevor~

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: nice gesture

Is there a reason that they will not ship to Europe?
Dave
I don't want to derail this fine thread ;) but...

Yes. U.S. Fish and Wildlife prohibit shipping any non-domesticated animal component without declaring it on the label and paying a $90 inspection fee. This now includes many woods. Thus, in order to avoid the confusion of separating the entire inventory into what can/cannot be shipped; we just stopped it all. And, to be honest, it was 1% of my business and 90% of my lost packages/products. Even those "easy to get along with" customers that assured me they would take full responsibility, changed their mind when they got an empty box with customs tape on it. They couldn't get to paypal quick enough to file their dispute. Not to mention, they took 200% longer to handle. So, it's not that I don't love the knife nuts in other countries.

There are many that still ship a good stag, pearl, abalone, ivory, ebony, etc. But they are one random inspection away from ceasing that policy, if not going broke altogether. Because Fish and Wildlife explained to me that they can not only fine around $500 for the package they catch, but they can come to your business and gather your records and do the same for every one you have EVER shipped. This is not a threat I took lightly... And I was shipping a German stag knife to China; it didn't even originate here. I have had other dealers tell me they asked their local Fish and Wildlife rep and they had never heard of such. But the nice lady that called me was quoting sections/subsections of code and sounded pretty sure of herself. Not a pair of dice I am going to roll.

But I will be glad to work with anyone that has a mail forwarder, whether a forum friend or one of the commercial solutions.

It is always great to have an old pattern that you actually want to stay in inventory... Can't beat on old sod......bullnose.

My plan is to see if I can spin these pins a little, but it is the nature of the beast. If you want roughed canvas, you can't buff the compound into the material. But, I can always find something to gripe about.

Got my first batch in last night and, although they are still proud, they spent some time to take them down further than they were last time. So not as high/sharp as they were before.

Good to hear about the pins. Going to place an order when I return home from my flight. Hoping there's enough of the natural micarta to go around.

Some rolling in already, that's great! I'm just curious what the production #'s on these are, would you be wiling to disclose how many of each color where made? Also, as a soddie nut I'd like to say thanks getting these made!

Also, since I'm a greedy sodbuster nut, how about some wood handles on a run:D

There is truth in what Mike is saying about various cover materials. A couple of years ago the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service raided a guitar company (can't remember which one) and confiscated all of their ebony wood. It closed the company down for awhile. Just about three month ago the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service raided Henry Firearms and confiscated some of the walnut Henry used for stocks and some ebony they used for accent pieces on some of their high end firearms. It didn't shut Henry down but it was a major pain for them.

Your new knives look great Mike.

Edited to say; When Mike brought out his Green Canvas Micarta and Green Linen Micarta SFOs, I bought two of the unpolished Green Canvas Micarta versions with the proud pins because I thought it gave just that extra look of roughness to these utility type knives. No matter which way you go you can't go wrong with these knives.

I also like the workman-like appearance of the proud pins.

Cheers to Mike for arranging these micarta SFO's. Beats the delrin versions by miles in my opinion.

Glad I got in for a natty canvas, I think those will prove to be the most popular. Always a fan of micarta on worker patterns.

Even split on the three slabs in a 200 knife run. Haven't heard the exact production numbers as there were a couple edc's; but should be close to 66ea.

Thanks for the #'s Mike! Sounds like a good healthy run. I hope they sell like hotcakes and you run out quick:D

It was Gibson Guitar in Memphis.

I got one of the first run of green linen micarta. I wanted the canvas, but didn't note the different links on the site, and ordered linen by mistake. I'm very happy with my linen one. I just may have to get the canvas one now.

They're not gone, just no longer on the early bird pre-order page since they are now in stock. Just check the front page and you'll find them. Happy hunting, these should move fast if last tie was any indication.
